Yesterday, I was driving along, speed limit more or less, with a passenger. We were in the far right (curb) lane, as I was going to make a right turn in a few blocks. We noted a car more or less at the same speed in the inside lane. I slowed down, and the car in the lane left to me continued, and we both noted the right rear of the car had been damaged. A fair amount. We wondered, as people do, how it happened. Well, we were soon to find out.
As I approached the intersection where I wanted to turn right, I slowed, looked for traffic coming from the left, and eased forward to turn when traffic cleared. As I had just started the turn, this car that had been in the inside lane, left that lane, crossed over the outside (curb) lane, and swooshed right in front of me to make a right turn. My left front and her right rear would have made some serious contact if I hadn't been quick on the brake.
My passenger and I looked at each other and at the same time said, "Now we know." Well, the driver went kiting on down the street, got to the next major intersection and dived into the far inside turn lane. There are two left turn lanes at that intersection.
Well, after several blocks in that direction, I wanted to make another right turn. I was easing up to the intersection, when all of a sudden a huge SUV, one of those that sits 10 feet up in the air, pulled out to start a right turn. Fortunately, she looked out, back and down and saw me in my little Dodge, and stopped.
I was glad at that point that we were about two blocks away from my passenger's home, and I could make a run for my home and GET OFF THE ROAD!!! I'd had enough for one day.
