Anyway....
Megan dropped in and showed off some of the new clothes she bought with the gift money I gave her. She looks very nice in a skirt (denim) and bright pink pull-over blouse. She's lost a lot of weight and really needs new, properly fitted clothes. Then after she left I went to the Sheriff's office and....
I finally got my fingerprints done. Electronically. Fascinating technology. There's a screen that you put your fingers on, and the prints show on a big screen. There's a scale that shows whether or not the prints scan properly. And none of that black ink that takes forever to get washed off. The technician was out to lunch when I arrived (perfect timing), so there was a wait, and I didn't have my book with me. Very rare for that to happen.
When that was done, I made my first visit to a shut-in. It was a pleasant visit, and I believe I'll be her regular visitor from now on. She has a very bad back and neck pain, and sat on a hot pat the whole time I was there. I asked her if her pastor called on her. She said "He's very busy. He doesn't have time." Now, how's that for a pastor??? She has no family; her mother died a year ago at this season, so she's feeling especially lonely.
After that, I went to the Jewish Family Services (JFS) office to follow up with the social worker, and we chatted about my visit, and forthcoming events. I'm going to try to create a report form for volunteers. Now I have to go to my learner's book, and see how to create a document in Word and send as an attachment to an email. That would take up less of the social worker's time in receiving reports, and there would be a permanent piece of paper in the visit recipient's file.
Started yoga exercises yesterday, and I'm ashamed to admit that I can't even do the lotus position anymore. I can barely sit tailor-fashion without my knees hurting. Lots of work ahead of me on that score. Friend has suggested that she has a list of easy exercises to do until I can work up to full yoga. If any of you reading this are neglecting your physical health, please don't. You'll be sorry. A few minutes a day of even mild exercise will help prevent old-age aches, pains and stiffness. I also need to be more religious about my breathing exercises to increase my lung capacity, so I don't get so out of breath with exertion.
Right now, all I want to do is go back to bed. But I think I'll go take a shower and hope that wakes me up to start preparing for the Sabbath. I have frozen Challah thawing, and I'll at least have that, even if the rest of the meal is throw-together.
Shalom
