I just lost pages of type on today's meeting. I am not going to repeat. Only to say that on the subject of TableTopics (strictly extem- poraneous, on-the-spot speech of no more than two minutes on a topic given by the TTmaster), I was voted best out of four.
One of the aims of Toastmasters is to help people learn how to prepare speeches and then feel comfortable giving speeches in public. I've never had that problem. I love to talk. In fact, I've had to learn to sit back and let others talk. I had a tendency to take over group meetings. I get impatient with fiddle-diddling. I get impatient with people who can't make a decision. "Well, maybe we should table this for further discussion." It's been discussed to death already, so let's take a vote/let's take action/appoint a committee to present the subject to the higher-up who needs to take action. Just Something! I've been known to get up and walk out of committee meetings.
But I love Toastmasters. There's none of that fiddle-diddling. The meeting is opened, proceeds, and is closed on schedule. This is important for this particular group, because we're meeting during their lunch hours. I'm the only non-professional in the group.

The wanderlust is strong upon me. I was tempted to drive somewhere, anywhere, that-a-way today after the TM meeting. But, with the cost of gas ($3.49) here, I resisted and came home. The weather is perfect for wanderlusting.
Ah well.

- From:Mamallama (Legacy)On:Thu Mar 06 2008Hmmmmm.
Do you think if everyone stopped wanderlusting for awhile the gas companies would lower their prices?
It's been suggested.
But not enough people stop.
*sigh*
I want to wanderlust, too. Wahhhhhhhhh.
Hugs, Tiggs - From:Dustbunny3 (Legacy)On:Thu Mar 06 2008Boy have you hit the nail on the HEAD. I have served on many boards and the lack of members who
can make a Decision blows my mind. Sending it to a committee is a black hole.
This Election and games played with Delagates is so sad for the people power placed in the hands of few is Sick. - From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Thu Mar 06 2008A Tayberry is a cross between one of the Oregon blackberries (Olallie I think) and a raspberry hybrid, developed in Scotland. It is red like a raspberry, but big and long like a blackberry (as long or longer than the end joint of my thumb). Very soft, extremely aromatic, sweet-tart in flavor, and I could stand in front of a vine and eat them all day long if given the chance! They make a FANTASTIC jam.
Alli - From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Fri Mar 07 2008I don't know how close you are to the following places, but Tayberries can be found there:
Pease Ranch in Brentwood, CA
Patricks Fresh Berry Farm in Camino, CA
Good luck!
