We got on the bus (something Stevie always enjoyed) and took the bus to the neighborhood of the doctor's office. (The office wasn't on the bus line, so they/we had to walk a couple blocks one way, then a block on a cross street to get to the doctor's office). We were talking and enjoying the ride and the scenery, and when we got off the bus, we walked along and enjoyed the walk. There was a neighborhood dog that came out to greet us, and Stevie and the dog had a short conversation.
We turned the corner to the street of the doctor's office and apparently Stevie wasn't aware of exactly where we were. But as we turned into the walkway to the doctor's office, Stevie all of a sudden realized where we were going.
He clapped both hands to his behind and cried out NO!
(My comments now) I think it was a combination of sudden realization of where they were going, and what seemed like a betrayal by his beloved Papa. My husband had trouble telling the story to me because he was laughing so hard at Stevie's sudden realization and his very definite protest.
Eventually the ear infection cleared up, and no more insults to the tushie. In spite of that misadventure, the child always enjoyed bus rides, car rides, whatever kind of transportation. He just enjoyed going somewhere. And he still does. Wanderlust big time.
