Started another JLI class, for the next six Tuesdays. Beyond Belief: Reflections on Jewish Faith, Reason, and Experience. We will be studying Maimonides' 13 Principles of the Faith. When I was bat mitzvah, my rabbi told me to choose five of the Principles and explain how they relate to teshuva (return; sometimes translated as repentance). This was in the shul on Shabbat. Was I nervous? Silly question. But I did a pretty good job of it. I know this because I rehearsed my speech before the rabbi and the president of the congregation, and they accepted it as I presented it to them.
But this will be a much deeper study of the Principles one by one for the next six weeks.
I had a "small world" contact today. A few days ago I saw an email, from whom I don't remember now, asking for someone to take a lady to physical therapy on Tuesday and Thursday. So I volunteered. She's new to the area, but she knows a lot of people that I know. Got her interested in the JLI class, and took her this evening.
Upon further ruminating, it seems I do remember seeing her in shul, and further that she has been here for a lot longer than I originally thought. So, of course, she knows a lot of people I know. And through her daughter, knows even more people from way back.
Well, you just never know when circumstances will throw you together with someone who has been around a while, but you just didn't recognize them. She's a nice lady and I hope that a friendship will develop.
Looks like Clinton and Obama are pretty much neck and neck. And maybe McCain has a good chance. But I think I don't want to watch any more late news. It's midnight and I'm yawning.
Bless
