Nothing much...
Fri Aug 20 2004

I've been watching some of the Olympics. Did manage to catch the gymnastics, after all. It's a beautiful thing to watch what those wonderful athletes can do with their bodies. I'm in awe when I think of the time, the discipline that go into their training. And the total concentration when they're peforming.

It's sad to see the disappointment when an athlete doesn't score well. And a triumph when an athlete exceeds his/her past best performances. The beauty and grace of the human body, a well cared-for, disciplined, developed, healthy body are a tribute to the potential of a human being.

I watched a lot of the swimming, too, but missed the diving. Maybe there'll be some re-runs.

I've started transliterating the Hebrew prayers into English letters. I find it easier to read the Hebrew words after I've transliterated. I'm beginning to recognize certain words and know their meanings. No way am I anywhere near being a conversationalist. But I do think this exercise will make it easier for me to say my prayers in Hebrew. Somehow it just feels right.

Daughter and granddaughter came over to see the scrapbooks. They were much amused by some of the greeting cards. My husband had a wicked sense of humor. They'll return another day to finish going through my Mother's scrapbook of postal card greetings.

Some of those cards are absolutely beautiful. Postals are nowhere near that pretty nowadays. It used to be the custom of young ladies to send greetings to each other and then save the cards in scrapbooks. My niece is doing a genealogy search, and I'm thinking some of the cards will help her in her search for a branch of the family of whom we know very little. Perhaps she can even get to Baltimore and search the immigration records for the arrival of Mother's grandparents. But on the other hand, they might have entered through Ellis Island, then settled in Baltimore. Speculation. All I know for sure is that my grandmother was born in Baltimore.

Now about my Father's side of the family...there's a great gap in information.

I need to get to the scrapbook store and see if they can give me any help about releasing pasted on cards without destroying the card or the page. Maybe I should just re-place the cards in a new album, as the pages of the old one are very fragile. Well, I'll act on the advice of the people in the scrapbook store.

I think I need to go make some lunch. My tummy is grumbling.

Shalom

PS: I miss Yetzirah. I hope her self-imposed absence from cyberspace won't last much longer!

Yes it great to watch the games and all are winners in my book for the hard effort just to be there.
Yetzirah is having with drawl pain but we are so glad to have her with us . It is another 100+ day and I melt at 95 in the sun, but here in the mountains I have seen frost Sept.1 many times.
Waiting for the UPS brown truck for a part needed to install a Sun Setter awning on the back deck.
It faces west and the awning will really make the deck a place to enjoy the late afternoons.

You said the magic word "scrapbooks."

Can you give me more info on how those cards are attached and what they're attached to? You can try slipping a piece of dental floss between the picture and the paper and you may be able to separate them.

Why is it that you want them removed? Can you read them the way they are attached?

If you'd like to give me more info and/or send me a picture I may be able to help you with some ideas...
