Surprise and a Mystery Solved
Thu Sep 11 2003

I was IMing with my sister and some other friends this afternoon, when bam-bam-bam, sounded like someone was knocking down my door. So, excuse me while I answer the door. The UPS guy hands me a package.

Hmmm, what's this? I order my prescriptions by mail, but they don't come in a box like this. Never mind, I sign anyway, and the UPS guy goes on his way. Hmmm again. No return address on the box. Well, excuse me guys, again. I gotta open this box and see what's there.

Oh, a lot of packing peanuts. So I dig down and pull up a jar. A Mason jar. Labelled PEACH 2003. Huh? Fished around for a card, or a note or something to identify the sender, and I come up with another Mason jar, this one labelled STRAWBERRY 2003.

Now, who is sending me jam--that's what it is, when I pry off the sealed lid. So I'm going back to my IM buddies and tell them what's in the package and trying to figure out how I could find out who sent the wonderful jam. One of my buddies who is a great deal smarter than I am about searches gave me the url for UPS search. I could hardly wait until we stopped gabbing so I could go look.

So I typed in the tracking number. Nothing. I look a little closer and see that what I thought was an "I" is actually a "1". So I make the correction. Voila! comes the tracking. OK, who's in Richmond, CA I know. Nobody. Oh, wait, now I understand what I'm looking at. It originated in Eureka, through Richmond, to Sacramento.

Mystery solved. I have a friend (recently married to a lovely lady) who lives in Eureka, and the last time we saw each other we had talked about canning, and peaches and strawberries, and the like.

Thank you, Bobbi, for the hint, and thank you Dale and Marleen for the utterly scrumptious, delicious peach and strawberry jams!

So now the next question is: which jam do I put on my toast tomorrow morning? Ah, two pieces of toast; one with strawberry and one with peach. Problem solved.

I love surprises!!

Shalom, y'all

Oh, what a lovely surprise! Yummy, yummy! I love strawberry jam. Especially if the pits are still in. Yum! How lovely of your friends to do that! And how clever of Bobbi to show you how to do a search! Clever, clever Bobbi!
    Love,
    E.L.

No one has sent me jam in the mail before. Although that's probably a good thing as I'm not sure how I'd react to someone delivering preserves to my doorstep. I remember when I was a kid someone mysteriously set me up with a subscription to a kids nature magazine and the mystery behind it still haunts me to this day. Both my parents deny having sent me the magazines, and so has everyone else I've asked. I can't help but wonder if the whole thing was a mistake.

Wasn't that sweet? I just love jam! I am thankful for Virgil's neice who has given us now three jars of homemade jam. This last was blackberry made from berries from where we are living. Wonderful! What a nice surprise for you. *smile*

I have to track stuff at work through the UPS site nearly everyday. I think it's great that so much information is available so fast. What a world we live in!

You have now posted three days in a row! I am so HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! *smile*

I have tried to find Ironweed myself because I enjoy the comments but to no avail! Ironweed is invisible but very kind and thoughtful.

I wish I had the time and the computer working for IM-ing. Hubby has put getting my puter in good working order in the priority list even though there is much needed for the house. Me without my computer is me not fully living. *smile*

Take care and enjoy those lovely gifts!

Surprises are so nice. I treated myself to a jar (500 grams) of Manuka Honey. I tried it on an English muffin this morning and boy was it good. At $18.99 a jar it should be good huh.

I wasn't particularly outdoorsy as a kid. Although I did enjoy going to the park. But what kid doesn't enjoy that?
Have you had any of the jam yet? Was it tasty?
And thanks for the comment in my diary. It's neat having people respond like that.
