Still complaining
Sun Jun 25 2006

101 degrees today.

We've been running 12-15 degrees above normal for this time of year.  What does that bode for July and August, our usual hottest months?  Phoenix, move over.

Some thanks are in order, however.  "The world's official highest recorded temperature is 136oF, recorded at El Aziaia, Libya, on Sept. 13, 1922."  Quoted from Sacramento Bee today.  And where in the United States is one most likely to be hit by lightning?  Florida.  (Same source)

Yesterday in Death Valley it was 125o, and expected to be 118o today.  So in comparison, I guess Sacramento was cool.

But the pool is still locked.  I think I'm going to make a serious complaint tomorrow!

Watched a great show on PBS station tonight.  Glenn Miller's orchestra.  An hour and a half of memories.  Real honest-to-goodness music, and people actually danced with their partners.  And they didn't jump up and down.  They danced.    With each other.  And looked into their eyes, and smiled.  And wore clothes that covered their boobies and booties.

Ah! Those were the days.  Ladies wore pretty dress, and gentlemen wore suits and ties.

Ok, OK, OKAY!  I'm a grouchy old lady who thinks hats and gloves are chic.  And that hemlines should cover the knees.

Oh, hush.  Go to bed.

Shalom

You do have something to complain about, that is for sure! Ouch. Especially with the pool situation!

Yes, those were the days. I remember them peripherally and through my parents memories.

When I was very young (mid to late 60s) I thought opera length gloves were the height of fashion. I was just fascinated with them. Also with pumps, evening bags, formals and mink stoles.

By the time I ran into a flock of Miss Universe candidates in Miami in 1970, sadly, gloves were out of style. They didn't need opera length gloves to be glamourous, though. They still had their fancy up-dos and gorgeous formals. They were very "establishment" looking, nothing like the California hippies I was used to seeing.

I have to admit that I still don't get why the fashion industry pushed that thick eyeliner with near white lips and heavy blue or green eyeshadow look. It was hideous then, and still hideous now.

    Hugs,
    ~Cali

I watched part of that same special..
It was a memory prompt for me also.. I remembered sitting on a chair on Friday nights as Mom and grandma watched Glen and (or Saturday) spit curled my hair.., fastened with bobby pins

I'd sure complain about the pool. how many days does it take to clean?? I have done that job (in Oklahoma City) and it took me a full day .. this was before any water had been in pool for summer and it was the home of bull frogs..
I had to scrub the sides and bottom with long brush.. after that is was simply skimming the top bugs off.. measuring chlorine (aquiline ) and sometimes draining some water and adding new..
Should only take an afternoon at most.. once it had water.. which you had said.. yours did
I would ask for a reduction in rent if services promised are not delivered!!!
    apartments suck!!!!!!!!!!!
I am having trouble with my DSL because the wires in this place are faulty.. and they won't admit to it..
In order to prove it.. I would have to pay a service call.. which I won't do. So I get kicked off the Internet every half hour
    Grrrrrrr!!!!
and.. heck.. i'd better update my own diary!
    ;P
    Happy birthday week!!

I think we saw that Glenn Miller special but will keep my eyes open for it just to be sure. We bought a best of George Gershwin cd a couple/few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoy it.
