Cats and other nonsense

I'm too old for a kitten.

KK is a wild man. I'll be glad when he grows up. I think. Anyway, in about three months he'll be neutered, and that "might" slow him down a bit.

The curtains, the bed linens, the carpets, the upholstery, the needlepoint on my antique lady chair are all grist for his claws. A scrap of paper, a length of yarn, the newspapers, my ankles, my shoelaces are all glorious playthings.

Did I mention that I close my bedroom door of late?

It used to be that he'd curl up on the pillow beside me and snooze through the night. Now 4:00am is playtime. On me. And even though I clipped his nails, those claws can still do damage to my human skin.

The Vet gave me some baby kibbles to give KK, but he refused them all. Banshee liked them. KK wants big boy food. He has started eating the kitten food I bought recently, but I'm still having to fight Banshee to stay out of KK's food. He's a big, well-rounded, not fat, cat, and he doesn't need all that extra nourishment that a growing, maniacal kitten needs. In fact the Vet said KK is too thin.

Megan said that KK's brother is wild for carbs: bread, pasta. So I gave KK a small piece of whole wheat bread with butter on it, and he attacked it like manna from heaven. So maybe I've found a way to get a few more fat calories into him.

KK emptied the kitty toy basket, and started fighting with one of the toys. Bap! Back off! Bap! Back off! Sneak up....BAP! back off. Oh, well...and walks away. I think he's right pawed, when cats are usually left pawed. Oh, well, didn't I say he's Krazy?

I think I have to cover the antique lady chair so KK can't do damage to the needle point. I might be tempted to de-claw him. Myself. With my own pliers.

Today was a very bad day, energy-wise. Tried to make an appointment with my doctor, but he's going on vacation. His Physician's Assistant will see me on Friday. She's a new one, and I don't know her, so we'll see how we get along. The other PA is an extremely competent person, and I'll see her when I don't have something that a medical doctor needs to do. We'll see how the new one stacks up to the old one.

My blood pressure medication makes me a zombie. I've experimented with combinations and dosages, and I still walk around in a fog. When I can get out of bed. So I've stopped taking them. I hope tomorrow will bring an upswing in energy. My apartment, and especially the living room, are a shambles because I just...don't...have...enough...energy...to...do...anything about it.

I did finally get the rent check to the manager this evening.

Watched an interesting show this evening on PBS. About fish. Seems the salmon are in trouble, but the bluefin tuna are thriving. All the dams along the main rivers haven't done the salmon any favors while they've provided power to the people who eat the salmon. Seems the wild salmon do a better job of surviving than the farm salmon. Surprise?

Also there's a weed that is used in aquariams that is threatening the coastlines of various countries. Australia for one. It's toxic to the biota that inhabit the waters. One small area in the Northeast US got rid of it by pouring household strength chlorine into the waters. Of course, the chlorine killed everything else, but it at least got rid of the toxic weed. So, when you're cleaning your aquariums, DON'T let the flora escape into the drains. You don't know what's going to harm the natural life of the lakes and oceans. I had the name of the weed, but it escapes me now. (Like a lot of other things in that feeble brain.)

Reading Harry Potter #4 now. Thick book, so it'll take awhile longer. If I can stay awake long enough to read more than two pages at a time.

I have some material (thank you, Miss Tick) on how to use the scanner. So maybe I'll post a picture from time to time. If I can get KK to hold still long enough, or not attack my camera. I still haven't found the on/off switch. I've turned it side to side and upside down. Maybe this model doesn't have one.

OK, that's it. Goodnight for now.

Shalom

thanks for the weed warning, will stay onto it for sure

as for the kitten, its funny how you tend to forget stuff like bringing up a kitten and how challenging it can be. i used to have to shut jessica out of my bedroom at nights otherwise she'd wake me up with her rampant games at 4am, my those were the days. not to mention the other stuff she got up to

LOL for the moment I thought you meant - switch off for KK to hold him still...LMAO...then I realised - it might be your scanner, you meant :-) well, on a second thought - it might be that KK model of the kittenware will have that off/switch too? have you checked? ;-)
Enjoy your Little Krazy Joy time - when he'll become one of those decent adult spieces, it'll be never the same

Fun books, the Harry Potter series. JK Rowling has a fantastic imagination!

Your trials with KK are some of the reasons Hubby will only agree to a cat if we have it declawed. This is also part of why we don't have a cat now! Maybe someday again, but no time in the near future.

Good luck with KK, hopefully he will settle down when he is neutered, or grow out of this spaz stage soon.

RYC on the nursing homes, we have found a website that has a list of the nursing homes in our area with charges against them. In the county my MIL lives in, there is only one without any charges, and the waiting list for that is several years long. She had been on it for a while until this recent issue, and her name was taken off after the facility spoke with her assisted living home. We aren't sure what they are telling people, but no one but the place she is now will accept her based on this. We are continuing to look, and research. Hopefully her circumstances will improve.

    Dear Chaya,

Of course you are NOT too old for a kitten, or for anything else, for that matter!

KK is just being a kitten. He may respond better to a scratching post with catnip if he were a bit older. I read somewhere that it's a hormone thing so a cat has to be almost pubescent before he learns to respond to catnip.

The best thing to do now is to protect all furniture legs with leather or jute wrap, remove all breakables and enjoy the fun.

Thank you for the note on the weed. We call that sort of phenomenon ecological alien invasion. You could also call any such deliberate act ecoterrorism.

I hope you get plenty of sleep because you're going to need more rest with the medication you are on.

    Love,
    E.L.

I can relate to your kitten woes. Ditto here.
Are you supposed to be playing with your b/p medications like that?
