I got hearing aids today. Bilateral hearing aids. Digital. Programmable somewhat.
I hear way too much. I had to spit out my chewing gum. I hear myself breathing.
The tickety-tack of the keys while I'm typing sounds like a woodpecker doing his thing.
There's a little button I can push to lower the sound, but it doesn't lower enough. I push the button and hear a beep-beep, and that indicates that I'm not hearing all the rattle-bang of the normal world. Well, I can still hear my breathing and the tickety-tack of the keys. I push the button again and get a beep, which signals that I back in the "normal" hearing range. Uh-uh. Ain't goin' that way.
The next time Missy sticks her nose in my ear and starts purring, I'll probably go ballistic.
Even the sound of my slippers scuffing across the carpet is almost more than I want to hear.
I live a block away from a fire station.
I'm supposed to read out loud 10 minutes a day. Since I live alone, the sound of my voice is to take the place of family conversation. You mean people talk to each other 10 minutes a day?
I had to let my friend and neighbor know that I have new ears. I'm constantly demanding that she raise her voice. She talks almost in a whisper. Well, today, I heard her loud and clear. She doesn't whisper.
This is one noisy world!!!
I'll be meeting with the audiologist once a week to get my ears fine-tuned.
Stay tuned.
