My 25--naybe
Wed Jan 28 2009

1.  I'm a first born of a first born.
2.  Don't remember my parents; raised by relatives.
3.  In trouble a lot because I was "different." Read rebellious.
4.  Because of #3, got sent to a Catholic boarding school where I finally found my niche. New kid on the block, but totally accepted by the crowd.  (Although Sister Alexandrine was seen to shake her head from time to time.)
5.  Worked at the air base during WWII and dated a lot. Loved those flyboys!
6.  When Sis graduated high school, we both went to the University of Oregon, as planned since early childhood.
7.  After the first year, I went to Los Angeles, and Sis transferred to University of Idaho,  and graduated with a BA--and probably with Honors.
8.  Met a musician on the way down to LA, was introduced to the popular bandleaders of the time. I met Les Brown  before there was a Band of Renown. Knew Les Paul before there was a Mary Ford. And danced at the Palladium.
9.  Got married to a non-musician, travelled around the country, had a couple kids in Texas, finally ended up back in California, and had another kid.
(How boring can you get?)
10.  After being a stay-at-home Mom, finally went back into the workforce. Did stints at 3 different police departments. Very interesting work.
11. Having extra money, now, I took flying lessons. Oh my. See my entry "I Learned to Fly."
12. Became a widow, went back to school, and earned Psychiatric Technician license and AA degree.
13. Worked in State Hospital, and private duty. Got a back injury that still bothers me from time to time.
14. Moved to Sacramento, continued working with mentally disabled. Until second back injury, and went back to "civilian" workforce.
15. Are you bored to tears, yet?
16. OK. I like broccoli, hate (senior moment here) those little cabbages.
17. Love to cook for family or company, hate to cook for myself. Therefore, my diet suffers.
18. I have an adorable great granddaughter. She's bright, funny, and a redhead!. Carrot top red. Her first word was CAT!
19. I used to design and sew my own clothes. Sewed my kids' clothes, except the boy's jeans.
20. I can still drive a stick shift, but I prefer the automatic transmission.
21. Love to drive. Except for the high gas prices, I would get in my car and just take off that-away. Saw some interesting places.
22. I have no sense of direction. I can get totally lost at night. That's one of the reasons I don't like to drive at night.
23. I hate shopping for clothes. But I can linger in the grocery store.
24. I'm Jewish by choice.
25. I'm the senior in age and residency here at this apartment complex.

Whew! Did anybody actually get through all 25 of these mostly boooorrring items?

Bless

I found this quite interesting. Oh, and my grandfather sang with Les Brown's orchestra, and the Dorsey Brothers.

I have always thought of you as an incredibly interesting person. I love that you learned to fly! I am wondering which air force base? My dad trained pilots out in Bakersfield (I think?) before he began flying missions himself in WWII (as you already know). Are there a lot of people who convert to Judaism? I've been itching for a sewing machine myself although I'm not sure I could sew my own clothes. It would be fun trying though. And you are NOT boring!

I have found that not many younger people take advantage of an older person' experiences the way they used to (lots believe they already know it all) but with all YOU have lived through I would definitely listen to your take on life.

I bet you have many interesting stories you could share.

    God bless....Parett
