Oh, What a Beautiful.....Day
Mon Feb 02 2009

It hit 69 degrees today in Sacramento, in February! Clear sky, gentle breeze. More like April. Trees are budding. Things are greening up nicely. Then comes the March freeze. Our poor trees don't know what season it is. But it was a beautiful day today.

Took Joan to her first physical therapy session today. She has a new  leg brace that gives her much more freedom. Her therapist said she could drive, so she's going to be driving herself from now on. Now that I'm able to get out and about, she doesn't need me to drive her around. How am I ever going to repay the huge debt I owe her?

I'll find a way.

We went to Trader Joe's for some shopping. I got a lot more than I planned, but hey, it's the first of the month, and that's stock-up time. Same with Joan.  Now I have my bananas!!! Plus yogurt. Plus my favorite cold cereal, and, and, and.

Oh, yes, and in the mail today came my "Forever Bags." I've been told that bananas will keep as long as a month. Fruits and veggies keep as long as 15-20 days and are still fresh and full of color. I'll give 'em a try and let you know.

It paid to go shopping today. I came hope with a carton of a dozen minus one Grade A Free Range Eggs, Jumbo, Brown. Free. One egg in the carton was broken, and it was being taken "somewhere" for disposal. I had help taking my grocs out to the car, and I noticed the carton in her hand. I said "Hm, I don't need eggs." She said, "They're free," and opened the carton to show me the one broken egg. She was taking them to the front to be disposed of (without being real specific) . When she said Free, I decided I could use another dozen, minus one, eggs. I wonder how eggs keep in a Forever Bag.  Well, I guess I'll boil a bunch of them, and have egg salad on call. Also bought some potatoes with the idea of making potato salad, so I guess some of the extra eggs could be put in the potato salad.  Ooops! I need to get some sweet pickle relish and an onion if I'm going to make potato salad. Megan puts ripe olives in her salad, but I never went that way.

I was supposed to get blood drawn today for the surgeon, but it was getting late, and I was going to miss altogether my chat with my sister. So I'll do that tomorrow. And I need to call the surgeon's office to see if the CT scan report has come back.

I guess that covers my day today. I really want to go to sleep, but NCIS will be on in less than a half hour, so I have postpone a nap. And then after that, it's too late for a nap, and too early for bed. So I guess I'll just have to stay awake awhile longer. Oh, yes, and get my rent check to the manager.

OK, that's it.

Bless

I've gotten so behind in the housekeeping department myself. Between two surgeries and anemia it seems housekeeping went by the wayside.
I'm taking it in small batches. Planning my attack a little each day. Makes it not so overwhelming.
It really makes me want to cry.
Glad you were able to be out and about and pick up some of your favorite foods.
    Hugs, Tiggs

"I wonder what happened to that woman who used to be so organized?!"

She got tired. I know about this, trust me.

Still, I'm glad you are feeling better.

Heh heh - why is when pets do an 'accident' in the house, it always has to be on something?!?!?

**praying for you to win the housekeeping lottery**

First, (RYC:) those characteristics of an Aries are ones that I have tamed and in certain cases overcome, but they are there naturally as part of my personality. By being aware of them and also being in the customer service industry for so many years, I've been able to learn a lot of better ways to deal with people. I've taken personality tests for work before and people are just shocked when I turn out to be a dominant type because I sublimate the traits in order to be a better co-worker. Life experiences have also taught me humility. I know I'm a conflicted person in so many ways. It seems I'm constantly doing battle within myself about what I impulsively would like to do and what is actually best. I have to tame the urge to want to direct and take over on the job too. Thanks Dale Carnegie, Transactional Analysis (I'm Okay, You're Okay), and behavioral modification techniques! I just need refresher courses in it almost daily to guide my decision making.

WOW what a day you had! You know, I can't keep track of the days either when I'm not working. I'm lucky to know what month it is!

I'm so glad you are stocked up. It is nice to know you have what you like on hand.

I've been eyeing the 'forever bags' and I'm very curious how they do.

Do you have an egg slicer? When I don't feel like making egg salad I just put a sliced egg on toast with a little mayo and mustard. I love sliced eggs on a lettuce salad also.

And yes, the cats will definitely remind you when cleaning the litterbox is overdue! Finicky things, they are.

I think of your cat everynight when the coyotes howl. They scream like banshees. They are very close. V wanted me to walk on the path on the ridge of the hill where there is a small cave to see if I saw any footprints in the snow while it's still on the ground. I am still thinking he's nuts for asking me to do that! I'm thinking they'd like their dinner delivered to their door!

Oh and your day sounds outright balmy. Perfect!

    :-)

Wow.. your temps have been fantastic.. We have had sun too, but are now in one of our inversions again, which makes air quality horrid

You sound so much better. I take it your pain has gotten better??
and free eggs tool.. They just sell the broken ones here. You always have to check the cartons .. and usually a cracked guy will be in there...
I know what you mean about housekeeping. I used to be OCD about it... Clorox everything once a week.. now I can write notes in the dust on just about everything.. It is insane....

I think much of it is energy level.. and pain level..
Well. that is my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it..
    Hugs

    ps
I didn't realize I was signed up for a paperless credit card statement and no bill came for me so I forgot about it.. Last payment was Sept.. Not good.. The card has me on hold, and a $15 late fee for not paying the Nov and Dec bill.. Finally got hold of customer service and requested hard copy bill.. I can't do it online.. Can't even get into their site..
oh well.. this is card #3 I've lost.. 2 to bank closures and this one due to me....
    Grrrrr

What happened to the woman who used to be so organized? Well, she became a senior citizen and can't bend and kneel and squat as well as she used to, but she still isn't cutting herself any slack!

Sorry, but short of me coming over to help you with the housekeeping, can't you get part-time hired help? They can come on a daily or weekly basis. Or get your kids to chip in and get you a Littermaid robotic litter tray, or a Litter Robot. Plus a Roomba or Electrolux Trilobite and a Scooba, so you only have to pick up after yourself and your robots will clean the floor and hoover up the pet hair.

Hope Joan's physical therapy sessions are going well. You don't have to repay every single act of kindness, you know. It's not a barter trade. As long as you truly appreciate what Joan has done, and let her know it, it should suffice!

I think you will have fun with your Forever Bags. I saw in an email that pure foil bags, like the ones that cereal and instant oatmeal and chips come in, work just as well for fruits and veggies. I have tried the foil bag method for salad greens and it works. Great way of reusing packaging, huh? The technique is to keep the produce in the foil bags, with the mouth of the bag open not sealed, in the fridge shelf section, not freezer or produce drawer. Somehow the foil keeps contaminants and moisture out and retains the temperature.

Gee that sure is lucky about the eggs! I love eggs! Even the broken one can be used for French toast. Just cook the hell out of it and no bacteria could survive that. To be very sure, have your french toast with a big glass of whiskey. That ought to kill all bugs, worms and viruses!

    Much love to the kitties.

    Love,
    E.L.
