Asthma
Sun Sep 11 2005

Now that the weather is fine, and the temperature very much to my liking, I have to close the windows and turn on the indoor fans.

Yes, it's that time of year.

I went to WalMart today and by the time I got home I was in big trouble.  And a pesty neighbor buttonholed me and wanted to talk.  I'm coughing, my voice is gone, and she wants to talk!  And on top of that once I got in the house I couldn't find my inhaler.

Aaarrgghhh!!

So she comes knocking on the door while I'm doing a steamer treatment.  And knocking.  And knocking.

I also fixed a hot rum toddy.

But I'm thinking I might have to do an inhalation treatment in a little while.  My chest feels like it's closing up again.

I've had allergic rhinitis for as long as I can remember, but the asthma is a late-in-life addition.  I know now why my Andrew was so frantic when he had an attack.  It's hard to get a 9 or 10 year old to relax when he can't breathe.  And it always happened the first week or 10 days of school.   I remember tenting him and creating steam to loosen up the bronchi, and trying to soothe him.  Poor child.  Talking to him quietly seemed to help some while the steam was doing its job.  But it was particularly frustrating to Andrew because he loved school, looked forward to the end of summer vacation.  But understand this, he enjoyed summer vacation, but the lure of learning was always there.

Andrew always had some kind of project going.  Books were big with him too.  I remember a "weather station" he created.  Don't remember where he got the materials, but I do remember it worked.

I hope I can stay awake for 60 Minutes in about a half hour.  The combination of Albuteral and rum toddy is very soporific!

Tch!  I've misplaced my car keys.  Again.  Good thing I had an extra stashed away.  The keys will turn up, and I might even remember what I did with them.  But on the other hand it might be the BLACK HOLE at work again.

I found the lost entries, all three of them, thanks to Yetzirah.  It was so simple, I'm blushing from stupidity.

OK, that's it for today.

Shalom

Tut, tut. You should ALWAYS have an albuterol inhaler with you at all times. Yes, I know that sentence was redundant but I cannot stress it enough!!!!

An asthma attack can turn deadly in the blink of an eye. I lost a classmate to one when she was 17. She didn't have her inhaler in PE and died before anyone could get it to her from her locker.

I love you and I urge you to talk to your doctor about measures to prevent attacks such as combo inhalers that you use all the time. Better to prevent an attack then to suffer one.

    Hugs

Oh, Wow! An asthma attack is so scary. At least you kept your cool and didn't panic. I hope you're okay now.
