I took Harry for a haircut Friday afternoon, then picked up Rowena from her home.  Drove Harry home, then when Rena and I got back to my place, she dropped her suitcase in her room and disappeared.  She has friends in the neighborhood.

Her good buddy Gordon spends weekends with his mother, who is a neighbor of mine.  Gordon just turned 12 and Rena will be 14 next month.  Gordon is a little small for his age, and Rena is very tall for her age.  They're an odd looking couple, but they don't realize it.  They're just good buddies.

Rena has boys clamoring after her, and has ever since she first started school.  There's never anything romantic, and Megan observed that boys think she's one of them.  Well, there's no mistaking that Rena is female, but her actions are still tomboyish.  And she's so totally open and honest that no one could ever mistake her friendliness.  I guess that's why boys like her. They're comfortable with her.

Anyway, Gordon and Rena spent a good part of the afternoon in the pool today.  Gordon's mother supervised.  They did get some swim time in yesterday, but not much because Gordon's Mom was miserable with a migraine, and one of the neighbors was willing to supervise for only a short time.  And I wasn't willing at all.

When they're not swimming, they're hanging out, wandering about, telling each other stories, or watching TV movies at Gordon's.  I think "going to Grandma's" is just a chance to visit with her friends when Gordon isn't around, or hanging out with Gordon when he is here.

When I can finally lure Rena back here, it's only because it's time to go to bed.  We used to play games, and I confess, I miss that.  I miss our chats.

When I took Rena home this evening, I had a chance to play with KK's brother.  LB (for LazyBones) is heavier than KK, and his fur is longer, but personality-wise, there's no doubt they're brothers. They're both tail chasers.  They both will "attack" any other cat in the family, regardless of size.  And talk about ATTITUDE!  They have it.  I guess it's the Siamese.

I'm going to have to get another paper sack for KK.  The one he plays with is beginning to show some serious wear and tear.  And plastic bags.  He adores them (and so does LB).  I try to keep the plastic bags out of KK's reach, but he manages to tear up the one I put newspapers in. (I ran out of large paper bags).

I just looked at the clock.  It's after midnight.  No wonder my eyes are drooping.  And I have a busy day ahead of me, so goodnight.

Shalom

    Dear Chaya,

Rena is perfectly charming! I would so love to meet her! You must be very proud of your levelheaded, dependable, caring, intelligent and friendly teenage granddaughter! I have no doubt that such is why boys like her too. They don't feel as though they have to break their necks trying to impress her.

I am sure you must be glad that she is at an age where she can look after herself. It would be exhausting for you to have to look after a preschooler who has to be bathed and tucked in and watched over.

Rena is good company for you. If only she'd stay home long enough.

    Happy Grandparenting!

    Love,
    E.L.

You mention you miss the board games and game time with Rena. I know what you mean, Me and GS used to play cards or games of some sort all the time.. Now it is difficult to get him to watch a movie with me.. Teens just can't hold still long enough!!!

You are good to take her in and allow her that freedom to swim and make buddies
I'll bet she is beautifully tan!

cats and paper bags.. Such a fun toy.. and just the perfect price..
If you have any catnip.. Oh never mind.. I think catnip and Siamese would not go together. I sewed a little patch of material with a dollop of catnip inside and attached a string for a toy.. Talk about a crazy cat.. They are entertaining..

    LOL

Isn't it hard when the kids/grand kids start to become independent?
