Brrrrr!
Fri Oct 31 2003

I called PG&E today to get my gas wall heaters turned on again. First open date is 12 November. I checked the thermostat earlier today and discovered that it was 50 degrees in this apartment, and that's only because that's as far down as the thermostat will go.

This crazy California weather!! It's been in the 90s all of October, and now that there are a couple days left in the month, it's down in the 70s. All of a sudden. The weather page in the daily paper says possibility of rain on Friday.

Southern California could use a whole lot more than just a possibility! Coincidentally, I got an email today from my granddaughter who I thought was living in Mammoth Lakes (fire area). They moved in August to Idaho. Timely info, right? Well, at least I know the family is safe.

Still no Aurora.

Glad I pulled out the electric blanket the other night. Even had to close the bedroom window earlier. The breeze was blowing the Venetian blinds. And if there had been more moisture in the air, there might have been icicles.

Yeah, yeah, I know. All summer long I complained about the heat. Well, I take the cold a whole lot better than the heat, so I'm really not complaining. Just commenting, y'know. But I guess I'd better get my longjohns out if the gas guy can't get here for another 2 weeks.

Well, I guess I'll go to bed now. I turned on the electric blanket about an hour ago so the bed should be nice and toasty. The cat is already curled up in the middle of the bed. Guess who has good sense in this family.

G'nite all, and Shalom

    Dear Chaya,
I'm sorry you didn't get to see the Northern Lights. I hope it gets warmer over there soon. Sounds way too cold for me, too.
Yes, moving away from a fire-prone area is a good idea!
    Take care.
    Have a great weekend!
    Love,
    E.L.

I'm glad for you that the heat is abating at long last Chaya, but it sounds like the change in temps. has happened so quickly that there's been no chance for you to adjust. Thank goodness for electric blankets eh,lol. I can just see your Puss snuggled on the warm bed. *smile*

Here we've just had our coldest October for 30 years; also good rains, which give some hope that, at least in this part of the country, the 8 years of drought may be coming to an end. I'm also glad to hear that your granddaughter has not been affected by the terrible fires in Southern California. I've been reading a lot of news reports about what is happening there and my heart goes out to all the people who have lost their homes, as well as the families who have lost loved ones.
Take care, (((hugs))) and Hooroo for now, Kelpie.

The temps dropped 30 degrees here as well, but it's not quite as cold here. Have you tried flannel sheets? Hmmmm they are delightful and warm!!

I did EXACTLY the same thing in the driving rain last January! Didn't open the car door far enough, and WHAM!!! I had a lump and a bit of a slice and it took weeks to completely heal. I hope yours heals faster than mine did.
    Love,
    ~Cali

    Dear Chaya,
What a nasty thing to happen!!! I hope it heals as fast as possible. Take it easy for a few days too if you can, as you've surely had some shock from the incident too,
    Thinking of you, (((hugs))) Kelpie.

I too have had a couple of "difference of opinions" with car doors. Nearly lost my thumb in one of them. Hope you are all healed by now.

OUCH! Oh dear, I'm sorry, Chaya! What a terrible thing to happen! I suggest you consult your doctor immediately. We don't want you having any concussions or blood clots or anything frightful like that!
Oh dear, poor you. And I thought I was the only klutz around! Rest well! Get well soon!
    Love,
    E.L.
