It's starting to heat up again
Sat Jul 15 2006

We were having some nice weather for a few days, but the thermometer is heading for the triples again.  I'll probably go swimming again tomorrow.  I'm more and more tempted to follow Megan.  At least for the summer.  But what to do with Schnapps?  He's not exactly transportable, and he doesn't have an automatic feeder as does Banshee.

Well, I'll think of something.

And speaking of Megan.  She has a job.  Not as much money as she'd like, but it's only the beginning.  The cats and the bunnies have settled in as though they've been there forever.  Had some rain last week and the cats, the cats stayed out in the yard and enjoyed the wet.  Megan said she had to go get KK and drag him in out of the rain.  I knew that cat didn't have good sense.  Psycho didn't mind a little wet, but he went in the house on his own.

I got a new pill that was supposed to help my digestive problems.  Just increased the problem.  Been mizzzzerrrable for the last couple days.  So we'll scratch that one and try something different.  So miserable, in fact, that I didn't go to shul today.

Marian is back East with her daughter now.  Left on the early-bird flight Friday morning.  She said she'd e-mail me when she got there, but haven't heard from her yet.  Haven't read about any plane crashes, so I'm not worried.  When she's settled in, I'll hear.

Went to Leisure League luncheon last Thursday.  There were two entertainments.  One was four performers from a local opera company: 2 men, 2 women.  The baritone serenaded us with They Call the Wind Mariah and Ol' Man River.  I wasn't impressed.  One of the women sang a couple Italian love songs, and the other did Can't Help Lovin' That Man of Mine.  Again I wasn't impressed.  Both women were sopranos, and maybe I'm biased.  The tenor did O Sole Mio.  Nice, but he wasn't Pavarotti.  He also did a nice Jewish number, but I can't remember the title.  Of the four, I'd enjoy the tenor again.

The second presentation was Japanese folk dancing.  Five women in pretty kimonos and white tabis did several dances.  Some with fans, and some with decorated hats.  They were so graceful.  I would have been happy to watch them all afternoon.  I'm not quite so fond of the music; the oriental sound grates on my ears.  Maybe if the volume had been turned down a bit.......

Well, the apartment buildings are going to be power washed Monday, so all the tenants have to move all their patio furniture out of the way.  Most of my patio is out on the lawn now.  All I have to do is get down the hanging plants and put them away under the shade.  The last time the place was spruced up I almost lost my spider plants from too much sun.  This time I'm spreading a bamboo shade over two chairs and putting the plants under the shade.  I think all the plants should have a good watering, too.  I'll do that tomorrow.

And then, I'll have to put everything back.  The fountain and the concrete bench will have to wait until I can get some more muscle help.  I'm debating about taking up the outdoor carpet.  It'll dry well enough, but the water sprayers may not like the idea of soaking anything but a concrete floor.  Oh, well, I think about that tomorrow.

Well, that's it for now.  I'll go read awhile then go to bed.

Shalom

I wouldn't blame you a bit for going to Washington for the summer! I'd go if I could!

As for the Japanese music, I understand completely. The pentatonic scale just sounds "wrong" to Western ears. At least the ones that aren't tone deaf. ;-)

Leisure League sounds like a lot of fun!

Yes, too bad it's not easier to follow Megan for the summer. Surely there is a way to transfer Schnapps or perhaps find a sitter for the summer?

It is HOT HOT HOT here now too. Whoooeeeeeeee!!!!!! I'm glad to be so near the lake, which is now quite lukewarm as opposed to cold. Nice to be able to go jump whenever I get the urge.

Good idea about protecting the spider plants. I love those things! I'd have some hanging in muy apartment except I know what would happen to them during the day while I'm at work with those two cats.

Hope your medicine kicks in soon and stops giving you troubles. Maybe it's just a matter of adjusting to it?

    Love,
    ~me

If I'm able to get one class each term, I should graduate March 2008, I'm hoping to pick up two classes for a couple terms so I can graduate next year sometime. There is only one class I can take next term, so I'll have to wait to see what is available for the term starting in October to see if I can pick up more then.

The Pern books are my favorites of hers too. I tried her Pegasus series, but couldn't get into it as much as I could the Pern books. They were much more "real" to me. I keep hoping they will find a way to put the stories onto the big screen someday. I wouldn't mind seeing Hugh Jackman playing F'Lar and Summer Glau or Christina Ricci playing Lessa. OK, I admit it, I'm a geek and mentally have the first three books mentally cast!

Hot hot hot is here too. and we are craving drowning in the sea. Unfortunately, the nearest one is too far away to bother travelling to in such a heat wave. I envy those who can just go swimming whenever they feel like it. Also the Leisure League luncheon sounds like fun despite of "japanese local opera" number.
RYC on circle crops: Do these circles just show up and then just go away, or do they disappear with the wheat harvest? Or is the wheat harvested in a way that preserves the circles?
as far as I'm aware. these circles tend to appear overnight. and with no traces of human presence either. (but then that must be just a very smart human who leaves no trace). they normally would stay until the harvest time. then they get harvested and of course, it's just a grain, so no, no traces of them in the fields at all...
I'll do your other q as an addition to my entry/

Ooh that might well be nice to be with Megan for a while, see her new home first-hand. I wish there was a way you could make that happen, how nice!

That one thin cord the green one runs right to the outdoor outlet by the back slider. I plug my twinkle lights into it that hang on our fence.

    Dear Chaya,

Am very pleased to know that Megan is now gainfully employed again and that the girls and the furbabies have all settled into their new home.

I am sorry to read about your digestive problems and am sending you love and hugs for a speedy recovery.

Your Leisure League Luncheons are right up my alley. I wish I were a member of your leisure league. It might teach me how to relax.

    Lots of Love,
    E.L.
