Weather Report
Tue Dec 30 2003

ooooo, it was nasty out there today. High wind, horizontal rain. I haven't watched the news this evening, but last night winds were predicted at 50 mph, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were that hearty.

Of course, I had to be out in it. Harry had a doctor's appointment this morning, and I was having trouble keeping the car straight in the lane. The rain was coming in sheets, and the spray from the cars' tires didn't help much. The windshield wipers were going whap-whap-whap as fast I could set them.

I let Harry out as close to the doorway as I could, then went and found parking space, which fortunately was close by. I put the hood up of my raincoat, but it didn't do much good, as the wind kept blowing it off. I was wearing a crocheted cap, so the worst of it was rain on the glasses. Wonder why someone hasn't invented windshield wipers for spectacles?

After Harry got done with his doctor, and I took him home, I still had to make another stop. Kitty litter. I ran into the store as quickly as I could, made my purchase, then ran back to the car. Not a good idea cuz it's easy to slip on the wet sidewalks. But not this time.

The two apartment buildings seem to act as a venturi tube. When I got out of the car in the parking lot, I realized the wind was blowing a fair gale, but when I started walking between the two buildings, I felt I was about to be blown off my feet. At least it was a short walk, and I huddled by the heater for a few minutes after I got inside.

So, those were necessary trips, weather or no, but I made another almost necessary trip a little later. Last night I got a call from a young woman I've known since she was born. She's now married and has a 3-month old daughter. Since she's leaving tomorrow morning, if I wanted to see her, I had to go visit this afternoon.

I let her father know that I was very displeased with him that he hadn't let me know what his daughter had been doing this past year or so. "You do remember my telephone number, don't you?" Well, the visit was very pleasant. This baby is amazing. Three months old and she's already trying to stand by herself! Mama stood her up and let her move her legs as if walking, and I said "Don't encourage that! You'll regret it!" When babies start walking, then mamas really get busy.

She's a good baby, sleeping through the night already, laughing, not fearful of strangers, and I had a wonderful time holding her and playing with her. It's been a long time since I've had a baby in my arms. Sweet feeling.

So, I had to leave because I wanted to be home in time to chat with my sister on line, and I'm looking forward to another visit. Maybe the next time the weather won't be so bad, and mama and baby can come visit at my house.

Mama now has my email address, and she's going to send me pictures of angel baby. I'll probably run out of printer paper.

The weather is clearing now, and it's supposed to be nice the next few days. Cool, but sunny. I like rain, but today was a little much.

Shalom.

I talked to someone on the phone from California today. I asked him how he was and he said 'COLD!'. I said, 'You're not supposed to be cold! You're in California'. Ah well. Anyway. Strange how small the world can get sometimes.

I hope the weather does get back to normal for you. That's scary, having trouble going straight on the road.

Take care and stay dry and warm!

    Dear Chaya
How lovely, I agree, to cuddle a baby! Worth going out in that awful weather.

    Glad you didn't slip earlier.

A brisk wind just picked up here and I had to *rescue* the budgerigars and quails from the blast.

Hey you must be online right now! I've just received an email from you...Cool, as my son would say!

My very best news is that the budgies are going to a good Jewish home in a couple of weeks. A friend heard that I was giving them away and will be glad to take them off my hands (and ears, lol). He has a huge outdoor cage all ready and waiting.
Love to you, from Jenny (Thubten)
