After four (or was it five?)days of aggravation, it's so good to be back in touch with my DD friends. I have such a backlog of diaries to read, I probably won't be leaving comments, but be assured, I'm delighted to find out what you've all be up to during this period of deprivation.
Had a lovely evening today. A friend who used to live here and has since moved to Israel, is back for a few days. I invited him to dinner. He paid a compliment that cooks just love. He took third helpings! He left much earlier than I would have liked, but he's one of those early to bed early rise people.
Friend Allen will be leaving in a couple weeks. I'll miss him, although to be perfectly honest, I won't miss the 20 mile round trips. No, wait, that's 40 miles round trip: 20 there, 20 back. He's laughing and smiling, all excited to be going back East to be with family. Seven grandchildren will certainly keep him company. I do hope someone remembers to let me know how he's doing from time to time.
My darling Sonny Boy sent me a box of goodies from Harry & David. If you're not acquainted with that firm, but you're interested in the very finest fruit (and other goodies), then I encourage you to write for a catalog. They're in Medford, Oregon.
The box contained six pears (one of which I took to Allen), four apples, a box of four truffles (oh, heaven!), a bag of mixed nuts, a bag of chocolate covered cherries, and a small lemon cake. Oh, yes, a brick of cheese which I'll have to give away cuz it's not kosher.
Eldest granddaughter sent me a package of sybaritic bath goodies. Have you ever heard of a teabag for a bath? The bag contains lavender, hibiscus, rose petals and chamomile. You fill the tub, toss in the bag for ten minutes, remove the bag then lower self into the scented heaven. There's bubble bath, too. I don't usually take tub baths, but I'm going to schedule one soon just to enjoy the bubbles. Oh, yes, there's also a loufa back scrubber. There are places on my back I can't reach, and that scrubber does a fiiiiiine job! The body lotion has a gentle scent and the bath gel left my skin feeling smooth and soft. Joy!
I'm eagerly looking forward to a visit from Cali and The Kid. They will arrive on Thursday. They'll spend the weekend. Cali will be doing the cooking for Sabbath and the first night of Chanukah. Megan and Rena will be joining us. With all those Menorahs going, the place will be ablaze!
And speaking of Menorah. The governor is going to light the first light of the Grand Menorah on the Capitol steps on Friday night. We've had dignitaries of various ranks join us before, but this is the first time The Gov has participated. I like to think it's because it's a joyous season for us Jews, but cynically, it won't do his image any harm.
Old Arthur Itis is back. He's attacking my left foot now. I can hardly walk. Groan!
Well, on that happy note, I think I'll say goodnight.
Shalom
