Whoopee! One more building got washed. They didn't come until afternoon. Maybe my building will be next, tomorrow, maybe.
I dunno what a cockamamie outfit this is, but they certainly don't get my vote for "getting the job done!" I think my winter cacti aren't going to make it. Out in the sun, unprotected, too long. I sure hate to start over with them, but I may have no choice. Both plants bloomed beautifully last winter, and if I have to start over, it'll be another five years before I see another bloom. Damn!
And my patio stuff is still out on the lawn. I'm managing to keep the spider plants protected from the sun, so far. This is absolutely unacceptable. Everything has been out in the yard since Sunday night. The people were supposed to come Monday morning. Well, they came, but did just one building. Then they came again today--late--and did another building. At this rate it'll take six more days to finish the complex. That's assuming they work on Saturday.
And then there are the people who put all their patio stuff inside their apartments. They can't be too happy about the inefficiency of the apartment-washer company.
I'm going to write a letter to the owner.
It's still hot. And going to continue hot at least to the middle of next week, if the forecasters are correct. And the Delta Breeze is pretty weak. Lowest temperature at night has been 68o. I'm sleeping with a fan blowing directly on me.
Vancouver is beginning to sound better and better.

- From:Yetzirah (Legacy)On:Wed Jul 19 2006How do you feel about overcast and drizzle????
Just a little reality check.
I lived Just over the border from Vancover for a few months once. I had a full time job using up cans of Lysol to kill the mildew that constantly grew in the bathroom.
I'm trying to remember if I ever SAW the sun during those months I was there....
Thinking....
- From:Dustbunny3 (Legacy)On:Wed Jul 19 2006Don't know about Vancover,I had many meetings there and trying to recall if any were dry. Getting very hard to get any type work done in a orderly manner these days. My son works for a building contractor and they are reroofing a house in this heat, They went through 6 cans of Wasp killer so far and all the crew has been stung many times. The House was built in 1899 and the entire roof had to be removed exposing real 2"X10" rough cut solid as a rock trusses.
Only thing was it had three layers of old roofing that needed to be removed with wasps Bald headed Hornets it was home too and a very steep angle . They are earning thier pay . - From:CovertOps (Legacy)On:Wed Jul 19 2006Dear Chaya,
Cockamamie! Haa! I haven't heard that term in years! I love it! I love the context in which you used the term! Cockamamie! Haaa haaaa! Heee heee!
Oy I sure am glad that at least one building got washed. I am sure the maintenance corp won't leave any of the buildings out. Your building's turn will come soon.
I must agree that it is a nuisance, though, having to take everything out and wait for the cleaning people to come. Do write a letter of complaint to the owner. You have my support!
I am sorry about your cacti. I never do have much luck with cacti. May I suggest hardier plants, like ferns, and decorative foliage, and bougainvillea?
As for your comment, thank you for the timely reminder. 4x4s that have 1.3, 1.5 or 1.6 liter capacity do not use more gasoline than the average car. Also, I don't intend to be rabidly driving everywhere. I would still opt to walk, bike, skate or take public transport (they run on electricity) to destinations that are accessible without having to drive.
Love you, my friend. Take care.
Love,

- From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Thu Jul 20 2006Sounds like the company has the same scheduling person as the company Welshamethyst works for!
Alli - From:Calichef (Legacy)On:Thu Jul 20 2006Vancouver sounds pretty good to me right about now, too.
In news from here, all hell broke lose today because apparently my mother found my languishing Blogger blog (www.calisblueplatespecial.blogspot.com) and read something I wrote more than a year and a half ago about her sending rotten groceries home with me. I don't call her any names, say that I hate her, or anything bad or untrue, but she has decided that I'm ungrateful. Therefore, she has decided to make my life a living hell for the next 30 days.
In the meantime, I didn't want to risk her finding my diary here so I privatized it. I will start a new diary with all friends only entries as soon as I can. In the meantime if you feel the need, you can send email to: [email protected].
Hugs,
~Cali - From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Thu Jul 20 2006I soooo had to laugh about Alli's comment!
