Cranky DD
Sun Feb 01 2004

I wrote the following in Word on the 27th, but every time I tried to enter it to DD, I'd get a "Database Error." Tried again this evening (the 31st in spite of what the date up there says), and got the same message. So, here's what I wrote:

Hi, Diary,

Yeah I'm back among the living. Still coughing some, but definitely on the mend. In fact I've been out in the big wide world a couple times.

When I'm sick, I don't eat. I've lost five pounds. Whoopee! Now I'm only 20 pounds away from my goal weight. But I'll probably need a tummy tuck if that goal is ever reached.

Making absolutely no progress on the mess around my computer. Seems the more I put away, file, throw away, rearrange, there's more waiting for me. Now I have my tax forms to fill out. Not looking forward to that. Think I may owe money this year. Which is a big OUCH!

I would dearly love to get my table cleared off so I can set up my easel and start painting again. I have some sketches just waiting to be rendered into beautiful, museum-quality pastel paintings. (Yeah, sure) Well, I am a pretty good painter. But I don't suppose the Metopolitan Museum of Art would be interested. Ah well.

What I really need is another room. A two-bedroom apartment just dosn't do it for me. I'm bound to have a mess around this computer, so I need another room to hide it in. Then I can use this space for my painting. Another Ah well.

No, the second bedroom is not adequate. If I put this mess in there, then there's no place to put my granddaughter when she comes to visit, or any other visitor. A house with a garage would be really nice. My car has never seen the inside of a garage (except the professional kind for servicing). Even a carport would be nice.

Started the next 8-week course in Jewish learning. Next week Rabbi Dr. Laibl Wolf, from Australia, will be with us. I'm really looking forward to his lecture. He's been here before, but it's been a couple years. He goes all over the world, and is a very popular lecturer.

I called my daughter this evening to remind her that I'm not home on Tuesday evenings. Invariably, I would come home and find a message on the phone from her. So now she's put the next 8 Tuesdays "no call Ma" on her calendar.

Having been sick and homebound (and bedbound), not much has happened to talk about. So I'll shut up now.

Shalom

What on earth? How can mail have precedence over a dying person on an ambulance.

Sounds like you and I are in the same desk situation. I haven't seen the top of my desk in weeks. I'm told it is made of wood, but cannot confirm that yet!

I'm glad to read that you are feeling better and getting out and about again.

I can see bits and peices of the top of my desk toward the front, but the back of the desk is about 12 inches deep. I really need to do something about that.

As for the ambulance situation, that's just deplorable! Those people should be ashamed of themselves!

    Love,
    Cali

P.S. If all goes accoding to plan, and I actually see some $ this week, I may be able to come see you! Not on Tuesday, though. ;-D

Hello there. That is something about those cars not yeilding to the ambulance! Crazy. I think people do have their music in their cars up so loud it's hard to hear a siren sometimes. My dad always got upset about that (having the music too loud in the car) for just that reason.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Wow, five pounds lost! That's great. That's the only good thing about being ill.

I hear you on the bedroom thing! I have never had enough extra space. I want one bedroom sized room JUST for storage. Maybe I'll get a 12x12 shed for stuff when we move to the house. Closets, I want closets! But an extra room that you can do your thing in and then close the door when company comes over would be ideal.

    Take care.

    Eight???
    Dolts and Fools all....

I think there are A LOT of drivers down here who get into the frame of mind that the traffic laws are "suggestions" and they are "exempt" because they are just so darn wonderful and important.
I want to box their ears.

    Y.

p.s. im not good enough at doing accents to distinguish which one exactly we were doing, but it definitely wasn't southern, boston or new yorkian ;)

p.p.s the brides parents *were* there, it was the extended family that weren't. i.e. cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents and the like

Thanks for your comment on my diary - yes, I'm getting into the fish oil with gusto!
That's interesting about Rabbi Wolf. I asked M if he knows him, and he said he knows *of* him, and thinks he has something to do with Jewish House here in Sydney. I'm pleased you're able to get out a bit now.
The *eight cars* episode almost brings me to tears. How could people think they had the right to reduce someone's chance to live? I wonder what mundane concerns they were pursuing? A big hefty fine is needed - or indeed, a bit of public humiliation wouldn't go astray.
I will calm down now and go read some more diaries
    Love you, Chaya

It is frustrating when drivers don't yield. When this happens and someone is riding with me, they will take the license number down. If the vehicle get stuck in traffic at the scene and a cop is there, we will tell the cop. It's a $250 ticket. You said it best, think of yourself or someone you love being in the ambulance.
