A pleasant evening
Thu Nov 11 2004

This was the Wednesday Night Get-Together at D & D's house.

First I went out to my daughter's workplace to have a few words with her and show off the shawl I just completed crocheting. It was chilly with a spit of rain every now and then, but she's worth it.

I thought it would take forever to get to D&D's, as the traffic is usually bad at that hour, but I went sailing right along. Got most of the green lights. I was the first one there and got to get the first whiff of bread fresh out of the oven.

These WNGTs are pot-luck, and I gotta tellya, there are some mighty fine cooks. We sat around the table chatting after cleaning up our plates, then all of a sudden D-Himself got out the cards and we started playing poker. Five-card draw. D-Herself had never played, so I sat out and coached her for several hands. After she began to show some understanding of how to hold her cards and how to bet, I began playing.

I can't remember the last time I played poker. I love card games. I don't often run a bluff, but I do know how to psych-out another player. For awhile I wasn't hitting very well, then all of a sudden the cards started coming my way. It was strange, though. It seemed that whatever I threw, I got back in another suit. F'rinstance: if I threw an eight of clubs and a 4 of hearts on the draw, what I got back would be an eight of diamonds and a 4 of spades. If I could have seen a minute or two in the future....ah well. I cleaned out everybody, anyway.

We didn't have any chips, and declined to play for money, so D-Herself got out a jar of dried rose hips, and we used those for betting. So now I'm the hippy card shark.

Well, hey! can I help it if good cards are dealt to me?

All that excitement gave me an asthma attack.

D-Herself sent me home with some of her wonderful rye bread, and a container of the yummy noodles one of the other women brought. So I'm set for lunch tomorrow, and a piece of my cake for a mid-afternoon snack.

I was going to let y'all in a secret, but my sister reads this blurb, too, so I guess I won't write about what she's getting for Christmas.

Now it's time for a pill and bed.

G'nite and Shalom

How good am I? LOL (private)

My father served in WW2 in Navy. I lost many friends in Vietnam.. It was just horrible .. I was in high school when the military was doing the most drafting.. The boys were just a day out of school and off they went to boot camp.. Most didn't come home, and those that did, were so changed.. I have several lifetime friends who were in that war.. also Desert Strom and Korea..
My brother had a number for draft as he is a few yrs younger than me and just missed it.
It seems there has always been a war: Ever since I was born, and before. I am a baby boomer. They said.. 'No more war' .. and began to make babies.. :P
One day we (human race) are bound to get it right.
I honor our vets and thanx for posting the OperationDearAbby.net a great site for sending messages to all those in active service, or wounded. I hope many people will send them Lots of love!!!! I plan to.

My sister and I talked about how we all need to get a Living Will and designate a POA for Health Care. An accident could put any one of us in this same situation. My husband knows my wishes, but he a) might not be reachable when the time comes and b)isn't even in the same state. Scary stuff that none of us like to think about but as you said, so much easier on our loved ones if everything is clear and legal if the need should arise.

Cats are getting healthier by the day, and more playful and into things. The sneezing is continuing and I did once get a dog from the Humane Society that had Kennel Cough. I ended up having to take him in for intravenous treatments and antibiotics but he made it through okay. I don't want to lose these cats. I think it's just a regular cold but I will keep a close watch. His fur is getting prettier each day and he is not dehydrated or anything. Just sneezy.

Well, off to see about getting that pic up of them!

    Later,
    Calantha

Oh wow, Lucky you, Chaya! What a great Get-Together you had! I need to have more of those, myself. Even if we don't play card games we can always play Risk or Scrabble!

I'm sorry you had an asthma attack! The same thing happens to me, especially when I laugh. If I didn't always carry my inhaler around with me, I'd be a dead donkey.

    Lots of Love,
    E.L.
