Leisure League in March
Thu Mar 06 2008

The food was good and plentiful.

The entertainment was a men's chorale group, one we've had before.  It's a group of men from age 63 to 90 who sing because they love to sing.  There are many-many groups throughout the States under the banner of Seniors (or Sons) in Song. The professions of these men run the gamut of military, engineering, education, law enforcement, and just about any other profession you can think of.

They sing the oldies that we retired Leisure Leaguers remember and love.  Today, also, since St Patrick's Day is soon, they saluted the Irish, more particularly the Irish lassies. Peg O' My Heart, Sweet Rosie O'Grady, (I'm tired; my mind is shutting down, and I can't remember the others). Remember H A double R I G A N spells Harrigan?  Tooraluralural, It's an Irish Lullaby. And a salute to Gene Kelly: Singing in the Rain.

I can't remember all the songs, a whole hour of them, and we sang along with them. Joyously. Remembering.

Along with the singers, there is also a drummer, a pianist (the only woman), and a guitarist, who is blind. I sat close so I could watch his picking and fingering. I'd love to be able to play a guitar!  He said there's a gathering of guitarists at a park a little drive from here on Sunday, and I plan to go. All skills from teachers, professionals and learners will be there.  I'm told there will be food and dancing also. Oh, yes, I plan to be there.

The weather turned decidedly cool. Was a nice sunrise, but soon clouded over. Maybe rain for Saturday is predicted, but maybe it'll come sooner.  I just hope Sunday is nice.

Bless

I love all those old songs.
I remember my family gathered around the piano as my grandmother played them and we sang along.
    They are wonderful memories.

Sounds like you had a really good time!! Gotta love the Irish traditional music, lol.

RYC: I'd prefer to have a sign that says, "tresspassers will be shot. Anyone who gets up will be shot again"
