Missy at the Vet's
Thu Oct 25 2007

Was frantically looking for my cat carrier last evening.  I must have loaned it to someone, but I can't think who it might have been.  It surely isn't in this house, that I know for sure.

Anyway, Miss Beauty had an appointment this morning with her special veterinarian.  Dr Irene was off on maternity leave, and I'm happy to say she's back on duty.

But, back to Missy.  I finally borrowed grandson's carrier.  Missy investigated it last night, and voluntarily went inside the carrier and settled down for a nap.  This morning she went in a little reluctantly.  However, once in the car she changed her mind.  And she mewed plaintively and howled with outrage, and meowed the rest of the time.  All the way to the Vet office.  She settled down a bit once we got in the waiting room.

We got into the examining room, and she didn't. want. to. be. there. at all!!!  The technician did some very unmannerly things to her, like taking her temperature and weighing her (a healthy 8.5 pounds), and when she was relieved of that person's presence, she tried to hide in my armpit.

Then Dr Irene came in and so gently probed Missy's mouth (teeth in excellent condition), peered into her eyes (clear), poked and prodded her body (no mysterious masses), and checked her heart and lungs (in good operating order).  That wasn't so bad, now was it Baby?  Hmmm?  Mew.

The doctor and technician held her gently, but firmly, and inserted a needle into her right hind leg and injected something (ow!), then dropped some stuff in her nose (sneeze!).

I put the carrier back up on the exam table, and Missy couldn't get in there fast enough.  She did favor me with some choice words on the way home, but mostly she was quiet.

Had a nice treat of trout when she got home, so all is forgiven.

Bless

Cats crack me up! Can't get them in the carrier to get them there, then they don't want to come out. Once out they want back in. Gotta love it!

Cats are funny that way. Smokey my farm cat was a VET'S nightmare. Smokey did not like a trip to Vet. and left a few marks on him. I had him in a picnic basket and the Vet . had a young guy in training. Poor guy started to open the basket and VET told him NO NO they wraped him in a towel and it took both to due the check and he got his shots through the wrap. This was a good Vet but not dumb.Smoke was a very good cat and I loved him .

Lightning has a trip to the vet coming in his near future... just the routine stuff like Missy. I expect to hear similar complaints. ;o) If he keeps waking us up at night I won't feel a bit guilty.

Good girl, Missy! Missy is such a darling! Attagirl!

How could you possibly misplace something so large and visible as a pet carrier?

I like it that Missy tried to hide in your armpit. That's as good a place to hide as any.

    Love,
    E.L.
