Bread and Mess
Fri Nov 14 2003

Today was a pretty nice day. But if my joints aren't lying to me, we have a gollywhopper in the making. I can hardly walk, my knees are hurting so!

Read Ozone's solution to those annoying popups, and decided on a trial. Dunno. Everything is taking three times as long to load now. Well, I'll give it a try. Whether the slow load is more annoying than the popups, or vice versa, I'll just have to give it a try.

I did get my bread baked. However, had to call a friend to see if she could make a conversion for me. My 1943 cookbook calls for *cake* yeast. And since dry yeast hadn't been invented then, there was no conversion table. Friend was able to find a table that indicates that one tablespoon of dry yeast is equivalent to one yeast cake.

Well, the bread tastes good, but I think the yeast is past its prime. The bread didn't rise as much as it should. Have to go to the bulk store and get some fresh yeast if I'm going to be doing any more baking.

I started to try to get a little organization out of the chaos around my 'puter, and I have the mess spread out a little more. Some things got filed away, other things got put in a pile to "put somewhere," some of it is on the floor to be shredded, and the rest of it is still to be sorted through. What did I accomplish? Well, let's call it widespread chaos instead of localized chaos.

I think I'm going to go play a little computer solitaire now.

Shalom

Well, if you feel comfortable surrounded by your own happy mess, then that's fine, Chaya. I'd love to come and help you with the housework and baking. There's nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread. Pity about the yeast, but I bet your bread will still taste yum.
    Love,
    E.L.

    Dear Chaya
How does that saying go? "A clean house is a sign of a broken computer."
    Also "Bless this Mess".
Good that you got your bread made, but I'm sorry about your poor knees :(
    Love and (((hugs))) from Thubten

I see the Kings thumped Toronto. That's not bad, holding them to 60 points like that.

I'm sorry to hear your knees are still not feeling great. Maybe the weekend will warm up a little.

The area around my desk is terrible. I've got paper and bits of food lying around. That's not good.

Hope you have a great weekend, and talk to you later.

    Dear Chaya,
I'm sorry to hear how painful your knees are and hope that there'll be some relief for you soon.
"we have a gollywhopper in the making."
What a gorgeous word that is! I've never heard it before and will now be waiting my chance to use it myself.*smile*
Lucky is the bread-maker in this family, though not for some time now. There is something satisfying to the soul in baking (and eating) homemade bread I feel. I haven't heard of Peanut-butter bread before, but it sounds delicious.
    Love and (((hugs))) Kelpie.

that has to be an old recipe then and one well worthy of passing on down the line through generations as a family heirloom. all of us kids cherish dearly mums old recipes as she's gone and no longer with us, and i hope to do the same thing in passing them along to my kids (if i ever get around to having any!)
glad to hear you're only dealing with 'localised chaos' as opposed to the other kind, hehe
