I wasted some perfectly good cream
Mon Mar 12 2007

I got cream, blueberries and brown sugar again today.  Sat down in the recliner, prepared to enjoy.  Scooped up a spoonful, put in my mouth and began to chew.  Yeee-owww!!!  Ack!  The berries were sour, like unto a lemon.

So.  I decided I'd try to slice the berries and let them stew awhile in the sugar and cream.  It's two hours later and they're still sour.  Double  !!

Blueberries aren't blue all the way through.  Only the skin.  The inside is an indeterminate sort of whitish, maybe like like a white grape, only grayer.  So shouldn't they be called blue-skinned berries?

                <><><><><><><><><><><><>

Been great weather past few days.  Spring has sprung!  I think.  Maybe.  Well, there are a few more days before it's official.  Been in the high 70s to low 80s.  By Wednesday it should be cooling down again to the low-mid 70s.  But that's fine.  Twenty degrees better than the 50s.  Eh?

Trees are in bloom.  I mean REALLY in bloom.  Bloomin' idiots, they are.  In spite of the high winds, the trees have mostly kept their blossoms, which bodes well for summer crops.  The deciduous trees are greening up nicely.  I saw some birds building a nest, too.

Spring has sprung,
The grass is riz.
I wonder where the flowers iz?

Ah, Spring.
Da boid is on da wing.
But dat's absoid.
I t'ought the wing was on da boid.

Yeah.  The Spring Fool just bit me.

Shalom

My sympathies regarding your berries! Sounds like they would have been better in a pie with some strawberries to offset the tartness!

Drat !! Blueberries can be mean thata away. My brother and I took a canoe trip way up in Canada
fishing and it was really to windy for fishing so we stopped to see a native Indian friend we knew . Ole Bill was so glad to see us and took us to his cabin and his wife was a special lady. We had about ran out of our food supply and tired of eating fish. She gave us a couple large pails and told us where to pick some blueberries
across the lake inlet . If we filled both pails she woud make some berry pies as they were just ripe for picking.
Now that was a offer that made our mouth water, so off we went and found the spot and boy the wind was howling and man was the hill side full of berries. I was hunkered over picking and had about the pail full and a strong foul smell made me stand up to see the big black rump of a Bear not but a couple feet in front doing his berry picking. The wind was blowing right and we both flipped out he going one way and me another, Now the Bear passed GAS as he went and my berry bucket flew in the air spilling all my berries. Big Brother thought it was real funny and helped fill up my pail . When we gave Bill's wife the berries and told of the adventure about 5 times they would laugh till tears came and ask me to tell it again. So next day we had pie when came back from our campsite.
Like most native backwoods they don't get to visit with many other people and they really like to visit and laugh at events. Man was that good Pie.

happy spring to you, dear chaya :)

i'm so pleased the weather is warming up over there, even if it means winter for me!

the tramp was wonnnnderful, i brought enough water for the first hard day and the other days were really a piece of cake so that was good. not entirely sure how much the pack weighed but certainly less than 15kg, although not by much. one of the joys of eating the food for each allotted meal was the knowledge that the pack was getting lighter and lighter :)

    hope you are well

    xx
