Brief Respite
Thu Jul 21 2005

High temperature today was 87 degrees, cloud cover, nice breeze all day. And there were a few drops of rain!!

When I went out to my car at 7:00pm, one of my neighbors was very industriously wiping down his big red pickup truck. He takes better care of that truck than some people do of their children.

When I came home from class about 8:15, I looked toward the East and saw a faint rainbow. I tried to locate the other end of it, but there wasn't enough sun. There was a definite break in the clouds at that time, and the sky is clear now, as I write this.

Tomorrow--back to summer temps: 98; Saturday and Sunday 101 and 102, Monday and Tuesday 98. That's the five-day forecast as of 20 minutes ago. The humidity is usually in the low 20s, so at least we can sweat!

But, y'know, it isn't all that bad here when I check the weather in Tucson: 104 with an overnight low of 78; Denver: 105; Las Vegas: 117; and Reno, for heavensake at 102. Reno is in the mountains. It's supposed to be cool. Well, cooler than Sacramento.

OK, enough about the weather.

I think I've found a way to discipline KK. When he gets too rowdy, or starts climing on things he's not supposed to (like the curtains), I banish him to the back bedroom with the door closed. Last night he was so wound up, he was chewing on sheets, just would not settle down. So I put him in the room, finished my bedtime routine, and then opened the door after lights out. I was in bed for a few minutes when I felt him snuggling up to me behind my knees, then after awhile, he crept up to my pillow. And there he was all night long.

Awhile ago he was doing every no-no he could think of, so I tossed him in the back bedroom again. When it came time to give the boys their evening goodies, KK was almost asleep by his bowl. But he woke up fast enough when I dished out the treats. We'll see how long his good behavior lasts.

I got three new CDs in the mail today. I'm beginning to get a good collection of the classics I like. However, I found a couple country boys in the brochure that I like. Vince Gill and Billy Ray Cyrus. I think I'll order them along with my next classical order. I get a couple freebies with my next order. I like that. I need to check the list, as so far I haven't ordered any Chopin. His nocturnes leave me in a dreamy state, his etudes make my fingers dance, and his Polanaises thrill me. This is a composer who goes from dreamy romantic music all the way through to heroism!

Right now I'm listening to Tchaikovsky's Symphony #6 in B minor "Pathetique." That's another piece of music that goes from dreamy to Hey, You, Wake up!!!

But I have a problem. I don't have any storage space for any more CDs, so the new ones are being kept in their shipping boxes. Will I quit ordering? Heh!

Shalom

    Dear Chaya,

If I had a red pickup truck, I would baby it, too. I love trucks. I wish I had a Mack or Kenworth truck. Now if only I could reach the pedals...

I haven't seen a rainbow in months. Maybe that's because I leave work only at 8 or 9 .m., and you can hardly see your hands in front of your face by then.

Poor baby Krazy Kat! What a naughty little fellow he is, though! He's a sweetie. Is he freaking Banshee out yet?

You know, if you were to hold a yard sale, you could make a lot of money out of the things that you have too little space for.

I hope you have a great weekend, Chaya.

    Lots of Love,
    E.L.

I used to keep a water spray bottle on hand to deter the cat we used to have from undesireable behavior. It is amazing how effective being squirted with water was as an effective teaching tool for at least that cat!

As for your CDs, you could be like the guy whose house we are working in now. His thing is albums. So far I have counted 78 boxes of records. You figure a box probably holds 50 records so we're talking about a pretty serious collection. From what I've seen, he had everything from classical to Pink Floyd to Rogers & Hammerstein. He also has reel-to-reels which he is quite anal about, leaving little notes on them telling us to stack them THIS way, not THAT way and HEAVEN FORBID DON'T DO THUS AND SO WITH THEM OR I'LL FALL ON THE FLOOR AND HAVE A BREATH-HOLDING SPAZ. The guy is a fruitcake but that's another story altogether *rolls eyes*

Humidity is the key in hot weather hey. I was in Fiji last summer and it was so humid there you felt consumed by moisture. The instant you leave your air conditioned room you are saturated by the heat. I hate humidity.
