Yesterday was a rainy day.  All day.  Sometimes hard, sometimes just drizzly.  But no matter how you look at it:  Wet!

Went to Leisure League luncheon, and the meal was excellent, as usual.  Two kinds of kugel, green salad, fruit, and dessert.  The entertainment was children from Shalom School singing Chanukah songs.  And we were encouraged to sing along.

Took my neighbor with me, and she is as slow as molasses in January.  I know she has trouble moving, and I should be more sympathetic, but it seems it takes forever for her to remember to fasten the seatbelt.  I don't even turn on the ignition until everyone is safely strapped in.

And she doesn't listen!  She wanted to go to the pet store and get food for her dog.  OK, it was on the way home, so no problem.  I let her off at the entryway, and parked where I could see her come out.  Told her to wait until I could leave the parking slot and I would pick her up at the entrance so she wouldn't get wet.  Did she listen?  Nope.  I hollered at her "Get out of the wet!" then drove around to where she could unload the dogfood and get in the car without getting drenched.

Why am I babbling about this?  Because she keeps drawing me into her pokeyness, I get aggravated, yet I continue to offer her transportation when I know she'll take three times longer to get something done.  And then she asks if I wouldn't mind taking her somewhere else (nearby, usually), so she can poke along at some other errand.

No, I'm not a good Samaritan.  I'm an idiot.

Today is Megan's birthday.  I've been recording programs for her, as she works nights and can't stay home and watch her favorites on TV.  Well, I bought a VCR and some tapes and delivered them to her this morning.  Now she can program her own recorder, and not have to make a side trip to my place to pick up a recorded tape.  But...I also won't get a 5-minute chat with her if I happen to be awake (bladder) when she comes by.

I called a couple places, because they all advertise DVD player/recorders, but not VCR.  WalMart was about $20 cheaper than any other place.  So that's where I went.  I love my daughter and wish the very best for her, but twenty bucks is twenty bucks!

KK has finally gotten used to Megan coming by, so he doesn't get all excited and bounce all over the bed and me.  His brother, LazyBones (LB) for short, is just as psycho as KK.  He plants himself on Megan's face when she's trying to sleep.  Then after he's thoroughly rubbed himself all over her face, he plunks himself on her chest.  He's not a weighty cat, but still....

I think I get a touch of SAD on day after day of gloomy skies.  The sun is shining today, and I'm feeling great.

But I need to start thinking about Shabbat, and I haven't even read the paper yet.

Shalom!

How you feel about people isn't the most important of things.
What we do for them and why we do it are.
We are at our most loving when we least feel like being loving but still do it anyway.
Thank you for allowing me share a little of your life.

no you are not an idiot, you are a kindhearted wonderful and loving woman ;)
there's a saying that i pretty much stick to in moments like these ones when you feel like simply tearing your hair out over the doings of those around you and question why you keep bothering to put yourself out there for them: people are worthy of our convenience

you are such a wonderful neighbour

Hope your days have been filled with sunshine! I know I am affected by lack of sunlight, and it is very scarce along the lakeshore here this time of year. Lots of grey! But the snow does brighten things up.

I'm sure your neighbour is greatful to you for carting her around - maybe she just doesn't realise how her dilly dallying affects you?

I don't even think they make VCR's anymore - not new ones anyway. They have them in the combo players with DVD's or stock of older models.....well done for finding one!
