      Oh Heavenly Father,
    we thank Thee for food
   and remember the hungry.

   We thank Thee for health
     and remember the sick.

    We thank Thee for friends
   and remember the friendless.

   We thank Thee for freedom
    and remember the enslaved.

   May these remembrances
       stir us to service,
That Thy gifts to us may be
         used for others.

                Amen.

Ever since the original Dear Abby published this Thanksgiving prayer, my family has recited it at our dinners.  Giving charity (tzedakah in Hebrew) is a way of putting our prayers into action.  Money, of course, is always needed, but our time is equal to money, and sometimes even more valuable.  The service of self is always a blessing.

Blessings to my wonderful DD family!

    What a wonderful prayer.
It truly does say it all, doesn't it?
    Happy Thanksgiving!
    Hugs, Tiggs

Blessings to you, too, Pragmatist, and thanks for the prayer. I'd forgotten it. I'm glad you put it here for us.

As usual, thanks for your words of wisdom. If Becky doesn't slow her visits down soon, I will have to say something, I know. Even RC says now that she lives too close. It's good to know you can get the point across without being rude or having to feel guilty.

I think Mom's going to change doctors. She's seeing that it can be very important to Dad's health. And, thanks to Dr B, nobody seems to be talking hospice right now!

    Love and hugs,
    Ani

This prayer is VERY close to the exact prayer my dad gave at our Txgiving feast!!
We had a huge turnout.. Brother in from Oregon.. his son's.. their children, my daughter, her daughter and her 5 kids.. and even kody.. my sister and me and mom and dad.. Brother brought a new friend with him.. she is a young gal but I like her.. she laughed a lot.. and seems to really enjoy life..

Hope your day was wonderful.. and the mom to be was comfortable.. despite how near her time ....

Thank you for sharing the wonderful prayer with us. I will remember it always and put it into practice.

Thank you for your concern but I am positive I am not an alcoholic. Alcohol helps me relax, but I don't NEED it, and I don't NEED to drink more and more to get the same buzz.

If I were alcoholic, my beverage consumption would go up, not stay constant the way it has been for over 5 years. Thank you, Chaya. I know you care about me.
