Loose ends
Mon Jul 19 2010

That's what I am. At loose ends. Rena has been delivered to her step-mother, and I have my home all to myself. I don't need to make a reservation to use my computer, and my telephone stays by my side. I really need to tie up those loose ends because I need to start getting stuff together for my trip to Washington on Thursday.

My girl has quite an artistic talent. She was looking for some water colors, and I don't have any. So I showed her how to use pastels and make them look like water colors. I had two boxes of pastels, and gave her the box with more colors. So now she has a new medium to work with.

I think I misinformed Rena about my cell phone hours. I told her I had unlimited minutes, but I think I don't. Now that I've given it some thought, I believe I had my minutes reduced, and the monthly cost thereby reduced, because I wasn't using near the minutes I had, and was paying for. So, I expect I'll be billed for a rather large overage of use. If she wasn't on the computer, she was on the phone, or painting.

Something else happened with Rena, too. We have a Muslim family living in this complex, and I've been casually friendly with them. Rena has been adopted into the family. Husband, wife and three boys think she is special. [Well, of course she is, but we're talking about someone from a different culture recognizing her specialness.] So, anyway, she's the daughter the wife never had, and the big sister to the boys. And I, by  association, am the woman's best friend, and Aunt Chaya to the boys. And the hospitality of that family is beyond description!!

So besides enjoying having my granddaughter around, I'm enjoying the result of her specialness to another family. That girl is amazing!!

Now, I think I'd best go check the state of my wardrobe. We're having triples and near-triples here, and I'll be going to a place where 85 degrees is a heat wave. There's no problem with unders and socks and things like that. But do I take this skirt or that skirt? If I pack these blouses, I really need to pack a couple sweaters. I wish I had some warm trousers. Maybe a quick trip to the thrift store is in order.

Oh, it'll come together. It always does. But I'm almost a nervous wreck by the time it's time to leave. I just KNOW I've forgotten something.

Oops. Better get that call in to the Shuttle company. I sure don't want to drive to the airport then leave my car in the parking lot for two weeks.

Seems like there's something else.

There must be. I just can't think of it right now.

Oh well.

Bless

I hope you have a great time and get to cool off. It's been triple digits up here, too. It did start to cool off a little yesterday afternoon. I broke down and got a small air conditioner to get me through the hot part of the day. Whew!

I'm working between 4 and 5:30 or I would chat but I will definitely be thinking about you during that time.

Take it easy and God Bless!

Aren't kids fun and exhausting all at the same time?? I'm sure you'll enjoy your time up North even without TV.

RYC: I've already had that kind of scare where she's concerned. A few weeks ago when I got there she wouldn't answer the door and I had visions of her as a decomposing heap on the floor. I was under the impression that her sis and BIL, who live across the street, weren't home and I was just about to call the fire dept when they got home and BIL unlocked her door. Turned out that she was just in bed sound asleep but it scared me nearly to death.
