All's well here. There were some intermittent power outages here, but nothing more than maybe 15 minutes at a time.
Shingles blew off the roof of this building. I heard a bunch of pounding and figured someone was on the ball. Manager called me to ask if there was any water damage in my back bedroom. No problem there. However, water was coming down my wall heater. The carpet was pretty wet just below the heater, and damp about a foot away. No big deal there. However, I think the wall will have to be repainted after it dries out. Bad water stain, but not extensive. I expect the wallboard will dry out quickly, then it can be painted. Oops, that means the whole wall will have to be repainted. Oh, not a big problem. It's not a big wall.
I didn't make it to Shabbat service today. Can hardly walk. Old Arthur Itis made a visit, and my right foot will hardly bear weight. It feels better this evening, so maybe I'll be walking tomorrow. I hope.
Very unhappy news, maybe. Tracey got a job offer. In Santa Rosa. Which is on the coast. And I'm barely acquainted with my baby. She still has to go through the training, so maybe it won't be immediate. But when they go, I won't have any family nearby. A little feeling of insecurity here.
Oh, and yes, I have plenty of kitty litter and cat food.

- From:Mamallama (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008Glad the storm didn't cause anything too serious for you.
Tell Arthur to take a hike! Hope he goes and quick!
I can feel your pain about no family close by. Not a good feeling, but thank goodness for phones and e-mail!
Hugs, Tiggs
- From:Ksmiley (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008Glad to hear that everything is going to be fine. Sorry to hear about the news of family maybe moving if tracy gets a job. If the wall needs any painting, I am up for the job...I wish I was closer.
- From:Parett (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008My mother and other family members live in Santa Rosa and it isn't actually on the coast but off of Hwy. 101. It's only about a two hour drive from Sacramento but when you don't have transportation it doesn't matter how little time it takes to travel. And it's still not the same as having them close enough to see everyday. Although they may be able to visit you on the weekends a few times a month for a day trip or longer. Especially when the weather gets milder.
When my son was in college in Chico we would leave early in the morning for a three to three and a half drive and left in the early evening. Sometimes later. It really wasn't too bad. We would have spent the night more often but he only had a dorm room and we didn't want to spend money on a motel. Hope this makes you feel better. You could also get one of those webcams.
Take it easy and God Bless and heal you of your arthritis. - From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008RYC: What happened to Celebrity Apprentice?
It's on Thursday nights at 9 on ABC. Can't wait until next week's episode, the teaser made it look quite interesting!
Alli - From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008Glad all's well and that you have all the essentials.
Would you consider moving to the coast? Or even within half an hour's drive so you can keep up with your baby? Guess you have a lot of thinking to do!
Blessings,
L - From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Sun Jan 06 2008Glad to hear you didn't blow away in the storm! If your carpets wet that far out you really need to call the management and have them do something about drying it out so that there's no damage to the sub-floor. They really should look at the wall, too, and put a non-penetrating meter on it to see exactly how wet it is because sheetrock WILL mold and it usually does it on the back side so you don't know you have a problem until you really have a problem.
Gosh. I sound like Typhoid Mary, don't I? All gloom and doom *sigh*.
I'm sorry to hear about the possibility of the kids moving. I know it's been hard on you since Megan left not having family closer
(((((Hugs)))))))) - From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Mon Jan 07 2008water down wall heater.. is that safe???
Doesn't sound really good.
the downstairs neighbors got flooded during autumn rains and they did this stupid thing where now the rain gutters.. (which were not the problem in the first place) are burried .. (I use the term loosly) and shoot out right to my car.. my parking space under the no good car port.. so now when all this snow melts.. then refreezes, it is solid ice.. oh I love this.. winter...
Bring on spring.. I've already had enough..
your attitude is outstanding!!!
I sure do hope your foot is able to walk tomorrow.. the weather, no doubt, is not helping with arthur - I wish he'd stay away!!!
hugs - From:CovertOps (Legacy)On:Tue Jan 08 2008Chaya!!!! Don't touch that water heater. I don't want you to get electrocuted. Please get the apartment management to look into it instead.
You are not merely a Pragmatist, you are an Optimist. All that damage and you say All's Well. Not a big wall. LOL! I had to laugh. I'd find repainting a hassle whether it's a big wall or a small spot. Taking the paint and brushes and solvent out, repainting, cleaning, finding a place to pour the solvent, drying and storing everything. Whew! You are an inspiration!
I am sorry your family is moving away. Is there an invitation for you to go with them?
Lots of Love,
E.L.
