My eldest grandchild, a very successful young woman, was in town for business last week. She called and made a date for lunch on Friday. However, it turned out to be a late lunch (lunner?) as her last meeting was running over. But I was willing to wait, as she had suggested one of "the" eating places in town.
When she finally arrived, in a limo no less, I was ready. She had spoken of "we" will see you...I was thinking of her husband, but turns out it was a young woman she'd hired as a sales rep. Kimberly is very much a people person, and excellent representative for her company, and the company has grown out of two addresses, and recently moved into their third address.
Kim and James, her husband, own an "architectural rendering" business. They do the computerized illustrations for new homes that you see in the real estate section of your newspapers. They started as "artist renderings," then combined both media, but are completely computerized now. They have clients all over the country. Kim used to drive around, but she discovered that it was cheaper in the long run to hire a limo for the day, and while she was riding she could get some work done instead of looking up addresses and getting there.
I think the company has grown as it has because Kim is such a go-getter, is so well organized, and presents the company and its product in such a professional way that potential clients see the value of dealing with JBullock & Associates.
But back to the personal. We went to Paragary's which is in the social news as one of the "gathering places." I remember the last time we went there I had ordered the stuffed (can't think of the name of it) mushroom. My mouth was looking forward to enjoying it again. It's that big brown mushroom. Maybe I'll remember before I sign off here. Anyway, we also had green salad, and then desserts. I say that in the plural, as we each ordered a different one and split them. I had creme brulee. To die for, Cali!
The day had started out bright with clear skies and decent temperature, but as the day wore on the clouds began to gather. However the temperature continued pleasant, so we sat on the patio, which is well protected from the wind, anyway. Kim asked if the fountains and the fireplace could be turned on. We were the only ones being served in the patio. Our table was between the two fountains, and near enough to the fireplace to feel its warmth. It was altogether pleasant.
Kim also brought me two pair of cotton jammies. One set is pink with flowers and the other is blue with white butterflies. Very nice, soft. Cuddly. She's so good to me! She'll be back in a couple weeks, and I expect she'll hand me a massage schedule. She tried to set up something at a spa next door, but they don't have a masseuse. She'll find something. A weekly massage. *sigh*
Actually, I hope she doesn't find anyone nearby. She does too much for me already. I know she enjoys it, but I'm beginning to feel like her favorite charity. Now is that ungrateful?
If I'm remembering correctly, we've had five rainless days. Weatherman keeps telling us we'll have showers and chance of rain, but even in spite of the overcast, no rain. Thank you! I am SO tired of feeling moldy.
I need to get to the nearby gym and enroll in water aerobics. Walking any distance at all is getting to be a problem, and I'm thankful for my walker!! But exercise, water aerobics, is definitely needed. Well, since it's after 5pm, and I'm still in my new pink cotton jammies, I guess it'll wait until tomorrow.
There's always tomorrow. At least that's what I'm depending on.
Shalom

- From:Camomille (Legacy)On:Mon Apr 10 2006Wonderful day! How nice to be driven off to lunch in a limo to what sounds like a fabulous restaurant.
Was it the Portabello mushroom stuffed with Brie?
To many more days to enjoy! La Chaim! (sp?) - From:Yetzirah (Legacy)On:Mon Apr 10 2006Ah, the Pampered Pragmatist!
Excellent! - From:Dananarama (Legacy)On:Mon Apr 10 2006Sounds like you had a wonderful time - the jammies sound sooo cuddly and warm, and just my colourings too ;o)
No, you don't sound ungrateful - but I'm sure, like you said, she enjoys it :o) - From:ImNotLisa (Legacy)On:Mon Apr 10 2006You let her spoil you rotten, I can't think of a better thing for her to spend her money on! ;o)
- From:Calichef (Legacy)On:Mon Apr 10 2006Oh, Chaya!!! That sounds like a scrumptious lunch! Creme brulee IS to die for! (But don't bother with those cute little frozen ones they sell at Safeway and Trader Joe's in the neat little terra cotta ramekins, they are awful! But I do like the ramekins they come in.)
As for the massages, take her up on that! It's amazing how much better they will make you feel. try to schedule them for Friday afternoons, then you can go into Shabbos with an even more amazing sense of relaxed peace.
Don't get all hung up on feeling like a charity case. She just wants to do nice things for her grandmother BECAUSE, and WHILE, she can. She'd rather pay for massages than an extra nice coffin! Who can fault her for that? Personally, I'd come down and take you out for dinner (or bring it in, or cook it, whatever) every Saturday after Havdallah, if I could. Maybe someday I'll be able to do that.

Have a great week!

Chaya, you have no idea how much I want to come over and help you with your household chores. Not because you are my favorite charity (an accusation you are wont to levy at younger people, LOL!) but because you are one of my dearest friends and I love you.
Take care!
Love,
E.L.
