Back pain mostly gone today. Went out for a walk twice (per Doctor's orders). Legs ache, but the back behaved.

The reason for the walks is to build up my strength.  Doctor says I'm in no condition for a second major surgery, and I agree with him. We're looking at maybe the end of April to reverse the colostomy, and that means going into the abdominal cavity again.

I'm taking iron tablets twice a day to build up my hemoglobin. Anemia has been a problem since puberty, and it seems to run in the family.  I probably should look for high iron vegetables, too. I like spinach, but I think I'd get tired of it quickly.

All of a sudden I'm so sleepy! Had a good nap, too. Much too early to go to bed. Guess I'll just have to stagger around awhile.

Bless

I like spinach in my sandwiches and omelettes.
I make a mean spinach, mushroom, potato and cheese fritatta. Very yummy.
We are in the same boat, you and I.
I think beans are another good source, too.
    Glad your back is better!
    Hugs, Tiggs

Low iron also causes you to be tired..
Good for you, walking.. You are a strength to me..

Yes, my parents have been committed for 63 yrs.. They have both become so frail.. Mom with her walker and dad hobbling about with a spare. . he made reservations at Hotel Utah.. room at the top... very exclusive place for their dinner celebration.. this really surprised me.. I didn't think he was able to drive with his hip acting up.. and mom said she was done going out after her ordeal at Thanxgiving dinner.. But ... off they went.. Gosh.. I love them!

Tomorrow, me, my sister, and my daughter are bringing them dinner and a small celebration...

You take care now and rest when your body is tired.. no stumbling about..!!

Glad you got out. I don't know if it would help but I'm wondering about that nutritional supplement drink, 'Ensure'. Might be a tasty way to get some added nutrition. Funny thing for me is when I diet using Slimfast, I actually feel better and I am convinced it's because I'm getting the right mix of vitamins.

I have low iron too. I have had it a while.

The way to make spinach is like this...get some frozen spinach, can be leaf or chopped. Thaw it a little. Take a pan or pot and coat with a small amount of olive oil, get some fresh garlic and smash a clove or two and heat it up in the olive oil. Then, add the spinach and cook till done. Put some salt and pepper on it before serving...my italiam mom made it this way all the time. Tasted fabulous! Take Care!

The first line cheered me up a great deal. May your back pain be gone forever, never to return!

Raisins and apricots have lots of iron. How d'you like em? And they have iron-enriched honey, so that's something if you want something sweet.

Wish I could give you some of my strength and energy, my dear friend. You inspire me so much.

    Stay strong, dear Chaya.

P/S: I'll send you one of those animal-themed cloth bags once a batch has been delivered to the shelter office. Right now only the t-shirts are ready. Consider it a very late Chanukkah gift from me!

The walks and the iron tablets will help. Heck, you gotta do it if you want to get rid of the horrible colostomy! Hope things improve from here on in for you x
