Yep. That's how well I see--20/20--with my glasses. Without, well...I can still find my way from one room to the other.
This is seven years with the same lenses. I've saved a lot of money on glasses. I like the frames. So the only reason to change would be to get those lenses that change from clear to sun glasses.
I asked again about contacts. Nope. Same answer as before and before and before. I have rather severe astigmatism. I'm very aware of that. At night when I can't sleep, I commune with the moon. With my glasses on, she appears nicely rounded. Without my glasses, she's flat. Maybe someday someone will invent contacts for astigmatism. I'll be at the head of the line.
I need a new toaster. One day it'll barely warm a slice of bread, and the next day it turns a bagel into charcoal. My thrifty soul won't let me throw away. the burned bagel. No. I have to scrape off the burned parts and smear the remainder with cream cheese. So now the bagel is about the consistency of said charcoal. But I still can't toss it. That would be a waste of good cream cheese. And I still didn't get all the burned stuff scraped off.
Wind advisory: STAY HOME! The wind is fierce today. Gusts predicted at 50-60 mph. I believe it. My Dodge is a nice, mid-size vehicle, a happy traveler on the freeways and a pleasure on the city streets. But I tell you that wind tried to blow me right off the freeway. I generally set my cruise control at about 61-62 mph, and enjoy the drive. Today was an exception. Going to my appointment, I was heading into the wind and a little abeam. I set the cruise control and put a firm, steady hand on the steering wheel so I could concentrate on keeping in one lane and not having to monitor the speed. Actually, the traffic was fairly light, so the trip wasn't too bad in spite of the gusts.
Coming home was a different thing. The wind was pushing me every which way. Instead of cruise control, I'm thinking I should have shifted into neutral and let the wind blow me home.
And of course, there are wildfires being fought. Doesn't do much for the air quality, and it does a whole lot of nothing for the view. On the city streets, the wind is making a whirlwind of the leaves on the streets, and helping the trees shed their burdens.
Is there a law, or something, that says we have to have high winds when there are wildfires?

- From:MissTick (Legacy)On:Wed Oct 25 2006I think, the stormy rainfall might generally deal with the wildfires. in theory. in practice... if the wind can blow someone along the highway, then I'd say the rain might just be too slow to catch up with the winds and by the time it would reach the ground, it will be a ground that could really do without a rain, somewhere in England, for instance ;-)
Take care and for god's sake - buy urself a new toaster :-) - From:ImNotLisa (Legacy)On:Wed Oct 25 2006Rick and I are having the same battle with our coffee maker right now. It doesn't like to turn on but eventually it will if you hold the on button long enough. Two or three MINTUES usually does the trick. You get a new toaster and we'll get a new coffee maker. ;o)
- From:Dananarama (Legacy)On:Wed Oct 25 2006Driving in gusts is so dangerous! Especially when you hit a row of trees and the wind dies down suddenly, you're still wrestling with the wheel.....and yeh you kinda do a bit of swerving, and again when the trees disappear :)
Fun times I tells ya ;) - From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Wed Oct 25 2006i love the weather.. It has turned cold here.. and reminds me of why I want to move!!!
They are so silly here.. they are building new decks.. I wrote the owner and asked why not upgrade these 30 yr old nonefitting windows.. single pane glass and get a tax rebate or some kind of credit for energy conservation.. no reply as yet
took a week to hear back from Kody's therapist. but he spoke to me today for 20 minutes.. seems I'm doing right, by just being here

- From:Calichef (Legacy)On:Thu Oct 26 2006It's chilly and windy here, too. It's kind of shock to the system, ya know?
As for the toaster, we had to breakdown and buy a new one last year. We ended up with a Black and Decker. It's pretty good considering it was less than $20 at Walmart. It has extra wide slots, perfect for bagels, and even has a bagel setting. It doesn't toast quite evenly, so I've discovered it's best to set it on a very light setting and turn the toast/bagels upside down from where they were during the first toasting and then toast them a second time. Oh, it has a frozen setting, too. It actually works quite well. Oh, and the setting buttons are saphire blue and light up! Neat!
Hugs,
~Cali - From:Camomille (Legacy)On:Thu Oct 26 2006I hope you can pick up a good toaster somewhere. The one Cali mentioned sounds nice. I love them with slots wide enough for bagels, although I use a toaster oven now (found I can't live without one).
Wow those winds sound wild! And they do spread the wildfires so they do go hand in hand. At least you did not have snow, as we did here already! It's about a month early with temps below average. Guess we are in for an especially cold one!
That's funny about the moon appearing flat without your glasses. I never would have thought the glasses would make a difference there. - From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Thu Oct 26 2006I got the pattern from ImNotLisa, she did hers in navy blue instead of the rose color I used.
I thought spiders hatched in the spring too, until I saw the little critters the other day. The only think I can figure is a week of cool/cold weather followed by a few hot days last week tricked them into hatching early. There were thousands of them out along the fence putting their spinners up to fly away, but apparently a LOT of them stuck around. I don't mind, we've had a heck of a time with the flies this fall, and the webs have taken care of most of that problem!
