Did anyone miss me?

When I discovered that not everything from the old computer (iPAQ) translated to the new computer, I found there was stuff I wanted to keep. Lovely sayings and pictures that had been saved to my "Favorites" site. So....

I've been transferring stuff from my old computer to my new one. I couldn't figure out how to get one to talk to the other, so I had to do it the hard way. All my "Favorites" I clicked on one by one and sent each one to my Yahoo site on this new computer. This involved unplugging the new computer, and hooking up the old computer. I'm crawling around on the floor trying to remember what plugs in where.

What a chore! Then after everthing was transferred to the Yahoo address (and checked to make sure they were there), I had to unplug the old computer and re-plug the new computer. Understand, the new computer has a lot more place that have connections, but fortunately everything is color-coded. But it involved more crawling on the floor. I thought about moving the cpu up to the desk, but then, where would I put the monitor? Nope, that idea went quickly down the drain.

So, now I need to go to the Yahoo address, and send all the faves back to the Favorites site on this computer. But there's no big rush because I have access to them any time I want. However, it's easier just to click on the site, so I will eventually get everything where I want it.

My daughter's iPAQ is trying to die, so I'll give her mine now.

Oh, it just occurred to me--maybe y'all don't know what iPAQ is. It's a little contrivance made for Compaq just for internet service. Net searches can be done, Instant Messaging, and email, but that's the limit of its capacity. So my darling son gave me this new cpu so I can now do a lot more things. Once I get a scanner, I can send pix. I can now do word processing, play DVDs and CDs. And, oh, I haven't figured out everything this machine will do for me.

Anyway, now that I have that chore out of the way, I'll be back chatting about all kinds of things that may or may not have any significance.

Shalom!

Yep...did wonder where you were hiding.

I had the same problem when I got my new computer and I solved it by copying all my favorites and account addresses in the old computer to note pad. Then I copied it to a disc. I transferred the disc to the new computer and saved it to "my documents" as a file called "my old favorites list." Then it can be cut and pasted to your e mail address book and your favorites list.

Welcome back, Chaya! Of course we missed you! You could have transferred the stuff by diskette rather than Yahoo, but then again, that would involve the same process of hooking up the old computer, extracting and saving what you want from it and plugging the new computer back on.
I love your Jewish saying on gossiping. I will let my twin brother know. He is at the moment fascinated with Judaism.
    Take care.
    Love,
    E.L.

Sounds like lots of work. I'm glad you're up and running again. You'll learn more and more as you go along. Congratulations on the new computer.
