The Fall of Rome
Thu Sep 02 2004

What happened to the great Roman Empire? It died.

Why did the great Roman Empire die?

My opinion is expressed here, and it’s not humble!

The Roman Empire expired because of corruption, too much power in the hands of too few people, imperialism, wars of conquest (of course for the benefit of those conquered). Who could argue that Rome had everything to offer? Why not accept the culture of art, science, wealth—all the good stuff?

Well, because a culture grows up in a district that suits the ethos of the people living there. Think what happened to our own Indians. White culture forced on them. A whole lifestyle banned for the “good” of the white European culture.

The Indians lived on this land for millennia and did no harm to the land. Of course there were battles between tribes. It’s inevitable, it seems, where human beings come in conflict. But they still did no harm to the land.

The Europeans came and what do we have? Well, for one thing: Pollution! Too many other bad things to go into here. But think about it. You’ll come to a conclusion that perhaps “civilization” is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Does anyone see any similarities to what’s happening in the world today? Does anyone see a Caesarean dynasty developing here? Does anyone see imperialism here? Does anyone see wars of conquest, demanding that a people change their way of life? Does anyone see how our civil rights are being trampled on, our right to privacy, our right to think?

Does anyone see a once-loved, respected country now become one of the most hated nations in the world?

Does anyone see billions of dollars being spent on warfare when those billions of dollars could be spent to help improve the lives of the poor, the elderly, the children; provide decent prices for needed medications, affordable medical help? And this isn’t taking into consideration the lives being offered and lost in a foreign country that doesn’t want us there in the first place.

Does anyone see the end of this craziness, this lopsided ethos?

If any of you reading this think that Bush and his cronies are doing a good job, don’t bother to answer this. I’ve heard all the propaganda, the lies, distortions, half-truths. I don’t want to hear any more of it.

If you agree with me, don’t bother to answer. Just go out, talk to people, read the papers, listen to the speeches, compare what’s been said, or promised, and what actually has happened. Then try to get through to the blind who will not see!

Hail Caesar! Goodbye free America!

Well said. High time that someone called a spade a spade. What truly frightens me is the idea that Bush may very well be re-elected. *sigh*

All I can do is vote and urge others to made educated opinions and go to the polls themselves.

    Hugs

Hi pragamatist....peace and love to you this beautiful September Morning....
BUT......the American Indian banning his culture for white European ways?

Ameican Indians were enslaved, government schools were set up to Christianize (sp) Indians, to take their culture......Jimmy Carter, the wonderful person that he is saw that Indians could not even pray their prayers....he changed that.......

The American Indian didn't give away their culture...someone else wanted to inflict theirs onto them....stronger people and more of them.......that's the way it is sometimes...

Yes, I see the parallels between the two! I see the travesties of justice and democracy! I too believe and know that pride comes before a fall.
That's a powerful essay you've written here, Chaya! Bravo!
    Love,
