Fri Aug 26 2011

and the cats are getting ready by napping as much as possible...

checklist:

-move the car to somewhere not under trees
-have a full tank of gas
-buy some water, Ketel One in the fridge will only go so far
-break down and buy a flashlight
-get some matches too
-batteries, size d so you can have musical accompaniment to the disaster as it happens
-juice up the cell, even though reception may not exist
-juice up the iPod, to get away from the crap on the radio
-have a good book on hand
-have non-perishables on hand
-have a plan if you find yourself in the middle of a shit show.... such as no power, no water, no communication
-rethink driving to work in 50+ mph winds. is a paycheck worth your life?
-get cat supplies and have a plan for them to be safe as well
-check first aid kit, replenish with items you're low on
-have a baggie with change of clothes and toiletries just in case you need to haul ass
-be grateful you don't have a million dollar home on the jersey shore
-say a prayer for all those who this will truly affect in a negative way

Newest storm track prediction has the eye not too far east of NYC. We all know excactly how accurate those projections are, but be safe, kiddo. I'm picking up D batteries and a new antenna for my 30 yr old boom box today as well. It won't play CD's but at least I'll get the news.

there's a run for D batteries, 2 stores already were out of them this AM, hope you fare better than i did, i opted for a flashlight that takes AA batteries, which are plentiful in the store.

Salamander, all of you be safe as well.

No joy. My pharmacy was already out of D batteries by the time I got to work. When I stopped by Radio Shack at 7:00 tonight after work to get a new antenna for my radio (it had snapped off years ago and i never got around to getting it fixed) I heard them turning people away who had come in only for D batteries. All the hardware stores, groceries and specialty store are wiped clean. Apparently people were buying dozens at a time!

holy cow... yeah, people are a little over the top. hopefully, it isn't as bad as everyone thinks it's going to be. they did cancel all mass transit for NYC beginning 12 noon Sat. should be interesting. i may just be the only one showing up for work tomorrow night.

i figure my neighbors will have some way of hearing the news if we lose power, so it's not like i'm in the secluded woods... not worried about not having a radio. good thing the Prof is back in town.
