long run to the start
Sat Oct 16 2004

went to bed early friday having prepped my big race running gear for saturday morning. had the body glide ready, favorite running socks, new sneaks, long-sleeved performance top, sportsbra, and favorite running shorts, but i woke up feeling like crap with a very sore throat and a few bodyaches...

so. i decided it wouldn't be a good idea to do the last long run (20 miler) before the big race. i slept in, have gargled a few times with hot seasalt water and had my fill of greentea with honey...even popped some cold medicine pills to help me sleep better. woke up about noon, showered and dressed and headed to the grocery store for fruits, veggies, etc. etc. stocked up on oranges.

tomorrow morning i will attempt the 20 miler. after that, it's what they call "taper" time. decrease in weekly mileage. hopefully, the gear that i've chosen works out. finally got my registration card in the mail. noone gets into the expo without that card and valid gov't issued ID. without that card, you ain't racing baby...because that's how you get the items you need that will allow you to get anywhere near the starting line.

the weather pretty much sucks. i don't mind the cold. it's the rain and wind that slow me down. i'm hoping it's not too bad tomorrow morning. i have to say, i'm nervous, worried (right foot and left knee are not cooperating), and overall excited as heck to be running with over 35 thousand people from all over the the country and world. plus, there'll be Olympians running too!!! how awesome is that?!

in addition to training for the big race, i'm actively seeking a new job AND a new apartment. just finished reading "the five people you meet in heaven" by Mitch Albom. great read...short too. i had all but given up getting this book since it was such a hot item...but when i visited my local library, there it was propped up on the shelf with all of the other McNaughtons. those books that are borrowed and then returned (the ones with the green strip of paper on the bottom). anyhow, it seemed that it was there waiting just for me. i grabbed it without even thinking about it. i'm a great believer in things such as books, music, and art presenting themselves when you most need them in your life. i needed to read this book at this particular time in my life. i've got books in my closet that are waiting for me to be ready...

i also checked out "Jim Morrison Life, Death, Legend" by Stephen Davis. i heard one of the local radiostation deejays talking about it. last book i read "Noone Here Gets Out Alive" was a bit disappointing mostly because Pam's parents had influence on certain parts. the best book i read was "Strange Days" by Patricia Keenealy, a wiccan handfasted to Jim. she actually played the high priestess in The Doors movie by Oliver Stone. Kathleen Quinlan played Patricia and Meg Ryan played Pam. that was a lousy flick. ;-)

anyhow. it'll be bedtime soon. i'm tired. and feeling a little feverish but i checked and don't have a high temp.

last weekend i spent visiting a family member,a friend, one american cocker spaniel who fell asleep with her head in my lap, and a frisky german short-haired pointer with gorgeous intelligent brown eyes and who was hell bent on humping my leg ;-)

dogs. gotta love them.

i highly recommend the soundtrack of "Garden State". wonderful music very low key and mellow with the great surprise of an acoustic gem played and sung by the former lead singer of Men at Work, Colin Hay. there's also a short gem by Coldplay and (i take back any/all bad things i've said about Coldplay...i was totally wrong about them) an oldie but goodie by Simon and Garfunkel. if you like listening to the local public radiostation, this album is for you...it's alternative and Adult at the same time! dammit. now i'm really feeling 39.

ah, well, i think that my tastes in music have gotten better, although, i don't think they were ever really that bad to begin with.

9:03PM, time for franny to tuck herself into bed with a book.

ciao&meow and read a book!!! even better, if you've got kids or pets, read them a book...
;-)

I've tried readig Clueless a book. He'd prefer sleeping on top of the pages to listening to me drone.
