oh no. reading the online news at abcnews.com and lord! St. John the Divine in manhatten is on fire. i had been thinking about that cathedral lately. the last time i was there was with my friend who now lives in georgia. it's a gorgeous cathedral, i love the rose window. i took a class in medieval architecture, (minored in art history) and it was wonderful to learn the reasoning behind the designing of basilicas and cathedrals. i love vaulted arches and the gorgeous stained glass windows. plus, they have a bookstore too! one of my favorite things to do when i visit a new place is to check out the library and the churches (the old ones are more interesting than the more modern ones)
here in philly, i used to go to st. john the evangelist. it's a wonderful church (designed by the same architect who designed st. patrick's in nyc) what i really love is that it is run by franciscan monks! i really need to start going again, i used to go after work just to sit and think/pray/cry etc.
it's a four alarm fire.
some great things must be in store for ole nyc...'cause 2001 has been rough on that beloved city.
