and i'm wide awake thanks to the wonderfully noisy neighbors downstairs. so, instead of laying there, in the dark with my eyes shut, hoping i'll fall back to sleep for another hour or so, i get up...put the radio on and walk to the kitchen to feed the kitkats. i come back into my bedroom and quickly notice that hip hop music is playing... i search for my regular morning radiostation in vain...

i tune into the other philly radiostation, 1 of 3 that plays rock and hear the morning deejays saying that y100 is off the air. this was the only damned station to play radiohead songs other than "Creep".

yet, another reason to get out of this god-forsaken city. philadelphia will probably be the only city in this country without a radiostation that plays alternative rock. god only knows we need more pop, hiphop rap, etc etc. on the air. nevermind that the morning show deejays, Preston and Steve raised tons of food for the foodbank, offered pre-sale concert tickets to die-hard fans, and basically kept me laughing while getting ready for work in the morning. sure, at times, they were silly and even stepped over the line a bit, but overall, they did really Rock. alas radio-one folks pulled the freakin' plug...

living in philly:

pros
-awesome school program for my degree
-met a handful of decent folk
-has public transportation

cons
-freaking wage tax
-met more than a handful of idiots
-hikes fares that screws the little guy
-offers no alternative rock radiostation
-has too many pop and hiphop stations
-is run by a corrupt government
-is firing librarians and cutting hours of service for many branches leaving adult literacy and after school programs high and dry. i mean, what the heck is wrong with these folk running this town?
-the first thing i did when i came here looking for an apartment and a job was go to the library to use the computers...get my resume together, look through the newspapers and do online job searches...
but hey, they got that new football statium built...

i was listening to Dee Snider radio on WMMR and he hit the nail on the head regarding an email he received from someone who is dealing with their father leaving the family after 20+ years of marriage to hook up with some young thing...

Dee said, "there are no heroes"
noone seems to live up to their promises. selfishness and greed have taken over. you don't see good sportsmanship, just thugs playing what used to be professional basketball and what has now become street ball. you see doctors, lawyers, law enforcement, turning to the dark side, rationalizing to themselves that they're entitled to get a piece for themselves...
just last week, i had a front row seat to what the power of greed can do...i proceeded to lecture, a person that will remain nameless, for at least 30 minutes on why my goal in life was not to be a millionaire but to be happy and do meaningful work. to show up at my job on time, ready to go and do my best. to live my life with standards i have for myself: don't lie, don't cheat, don't waste, be kind and grateful.

parents don't stick it out, regret that their time is taken up by their kids...
folks have affairs and to get "rid" of the problem (usually a pregnant spouse or girlfriend) end up committing murder. my parents stuck it out for 53 years through thick and thin. they never even had a wedding. my mom tells me she wore a skirt and blouse and my dad wore pants and a shirt when they got married. she didn't even have a bouquet. they lived all over manhatten, they worked hard, moved, bought a house and retired in relatively good health, surrounded by their children and grandchildren. we threw them a 50th wedding aniversary bash at a restaurant in NYC...there was wine, champagne, great food and awesome desserts... at home, there was wedding cake for them. Dad got another wedding band (he'd lost his in the backyard) Mom got custom made earrings (clip-ons since her ears aren't pierced). good parents who never thought there was any other way than to be married and be there for eachother.

that generation of class is gone. we are living in a world of sloppy now.
i know i'm generalizing...but does anyone else get the feeling that the human race is on the road to hell?

basta!
