sleeping my days off away. of course, everyone decides to give me a ring when i'm trying to sleep. in the past 2 days, i've been awakened at least 5 times. 4 were phone calls, 1 was screaming children that live next door. noone seems to want to call when i'm wide awake. what gives?

had a bad and close call with orangehead. a ride to the vet for bloodwork was fine, the ride home nearly killed her. too hot. it was terrible. i had to pull her out of the carrier and sit her in the passenger's seat. she was open mouth breathing and had an increase in respiratory effort. after a very bad drive to the apt, i parked in front of a fire hydrant in the middle of the afternoon, got out of the car, grabbed her (no carrier) and ran her upstairs to the air conditioned apt. i wet down her feet and tummy, the inside of her legs and armpits...i rushed downstairs to get my car hoping it didn't have a ticket on it and proceeded to run a red light in order drive around the block and find parking. she calmed down a little but i was worried...what to do? she most likely needed fluids but she's also got a wicked gallop, murmur, and is in heart failure. fluids could kill her too. so, i waited it out, didn't much sleep (even after my overnight shift) so that i could keep an eye on her and if she took a turn for the worse, i'd have to bring her to the ER i work at. thankfully, she's doing a lot better, respiratory rate/effort are as good as can be considering she's in heart failure. she's been eating and drinking well. she passing stool and urinating normally. her T4 was 17, so in a few weeks, i'll just bring her to my job and get the blood there. because if she decides to crap out, at least, we have O2 we can put her in, AND an ER doc to take care of her.

this hot and humid weather is an animal killer. we've seen lots of respiratory distress patients come in. these are the pets that already have health problems :heart disease, respiratory issues (think short snout dogs)...take care folks, don't walk your dogs in heat with no water or shade readily available. you get hot in this weather, and so does your dog only they can't tell you they are in trouble until it is too late.

i'm feeling pretty crappy right now. very blah. i'm sure it's the PMS. i can't wait for menopause. i'm sick of this period bullshit.

went for a long walk today and ended up on a park bench overlooking the verrazano bridge. took a little nap, got some color, wrote a little in my journal...headed back home.

today, i realized, while walking home listening to my iPod, that i have no Bruce Springsteen... what??? no Springsteen. and no Elton, no Clapton, no Clash. WTF???

so, i downloaded my fav Bruce tune (Thunder Road) a perfect song. and am debating which Elton song to buy...my fav is Daniel... heck, i'm not a big Clapton fan due to the Patti Boyd crap...where he screws good ole George, but hey, his guitar playing is legend. as for the Clash...i'm thinking Train in Vain. btw, my favorite Bruce album is Darkness on the Edge of Town. that cassette tape got soda spilled on it no thanks to my then young niece. but i was well on my way to wearing that tape out. there isn't a bad song on that album. it is raw, cut you to the bone music. shit. i just realized i don't have any REM!!!! oh boy. this is getting out of hand...must stop here.

another 4th of July is upon us. fireworks on the river. traffic jams. picnics. general mayhem. i'll be at work, dealing with all of the freaked out dogs and cats that'll no doubt come in because you idiots didn't think about their sanity and safety when you lit that M80... no doubt the human ER will see its fair share of missing fingers etc. the healthcare field sucks during the holidays.

be careful
be mindful
of the innocents with 4 limbs and fur.
the feathered ones too.

ciao!
