well fed
relatively safe
free to do and think whatever i choose
in the company of wonderful pets
a phone call away from a supportive family
in a neighborhood with more families than crime
closer to pursuing a career centered around animals

i spent friday night walking dogs under a starry night.
i fed them way too many biscuits...
we ran, laughed, and i prayed that they'd find homes.
someone returned a very large iguana they had adopted. the reasons don't matter anymore to me. at the very least, they didn't set the stressed out creature loose to fend for itself. he was hanging on the door of the carrier. i petted his underside, he closed his eyes in enjoyment. he was returned to his old cage next to his old roomie. and that was that.

went to morning mass. said the rosary. listened intently for a message that always seems to be just what i need. i kissed St. Francis of Assisi's feet. shook hands with the Father. sang with the Holy Ghost, stood in awe that a Son so small would save the world...
