another year here
another birthday looming
another holiday season approaching
the sun knows nothing about all of this. it just burns...because
the moon glows always. regardless of your schedule...because
the grass goes quiet. the trees lose leaves. the birds get ready for the long flight to warm. the kids grow taller. the school outfits grow more racier.
hello goodbye month.
it's the slow packing away of warmth. of silly abandon. and you struggle to remember how it felt to just lie and bake under the sun. the smell of the fresh ocean, how it lingers on your clothes, your towels, your hair. the long days of just sitting and thinking, reading, napping on the lonely park bench...bicycles whizzing by. watching the long, white cruiseship easing up the east river wearing the morning sun's reflection...
it'll all go away. quietly. slowly. give way to the cold sharp days. filled with to-do lists and worry, school projects and icy emptiness...ever closer to the finish line.
