annoyed worker: "didn't you see the box of tinfoil"
me: "yes, i did"
me: "i can't wipe my fingers on tinfoil"
annoyed worker (with lightbulb over her head finally on!): Oh.
then she sees the NY Times under my arm...
annoyed deflated worker: NY Times?
smug me:"it's for the ******* dept"
really deflated and annoyed worker: "oh."
the beautiful part is that the entire exchange between us took place in front of her boss. ;-) karma is a damned good man!
that is what you call a stuff. you know, my hand was as big as Shaq's hand and you were going for a lay-up..and i smashed the ball away from the basket. no need to say much more than that.

tread mill training was a nightmare. you just can't do a 20 mile run on a piece of machinery rigged to reboot after 30 minutes. after the 5th or 6th time it started and stopped, after hopping from tread mill to treadmill, i stopped after 3 hours. i think i was in the ballpark of running 20. all that stopping and starting killed my legs. not a good thing.
i was really really sore and annoyed as hell. so what did i do? i went food shopping and ended up walking way too much. got home, massaged my legs, iced my knees and feet and woke-up sunday morning feeling pretty damned good. nothing more sore than usual. all that walking after such a horrendous workout on the treadmill seemed to do my muscles a world of good.
will attempt 20 miles again this weekend. funny, 5 miles used to seem alot until i ran 8. 8 used to seem alot until i ran 10, 10 used to seem like hell until i ran a 13.2...now i'm doing freakin' 20 milers...
progress is something you never really see to be obvious, until you sit down and think about what you used to do and what you do now.

today, i have to do a 6 miler. it's currently raining and pretty miserable out there thanks to Jeanne. of course, we're getting off pretty easy as opposed to Florida. those poor folk. the worst off folk, though, are the people of Haiti. there is only one word to describe the situation there: chaos. let's hope Mother Nature turns a kinder cheek. God knows mankind has a tough time with this.
ciao!
ps. watched Mr. Deeds Goes to Town w/Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur. Mr. Cooper was arguably the most handsome actor of his time. my fav flick with him as the leading man is Pride of the Yankees. anyhow, if only there were more Mr. Deeds out there on this planet. integrity, humility, wit, charm, with a hint of being a dreamer...perfect! and he could play the tuba!!! was a great flick and a great escape.
