ice, ice, baby...
Fri Sep 03 2010

currently sitting on an icepack, then alternating moving it to each knee. last friday, i hurt my leg only after running 2 blocks of what should have been a 13 miler. instead of continuing the run, because i hated to bag a 13 miler... i went back home and iced and rested and massaged with a tennis ball my right piriformis. i also took some anti-inflammatories. didn't run from fri until now. i did hit the gym monday to use the eliptical and tuesday night to use the spinning bike and weight train. continued with the icing etc and today, it seems that my backing off with the running paid off.

i run my long runs on fridays instead of saturdays (like the rest of the running world does) because i have to work on saturday night. so, today, i decided to run the 13 miles if i was able to depending on how the injury felt but i decided to do it at the gym on the treadmill because it would be easier on my body as opposed to pounding pavement. by mile 11, i had decided to "run" mile 13 on the spinning bike. i was starting to hurt and didn't want to push my luck since the leg was doing okay for most of the run. so after mile 12 i jumped on the spinning bike and cranked up the tension and basically did the last mile as a long hill. it was a good move. happy that i was able to do the run.

i then headed to downtown brooklyn to pick up a new pair of sneaks, same style only updated. got a great looking pair of asics gel 2150 in plum! a really great kickass pair of running socks, and some body glide. :-) i did chafe in the middle of my chest around the band of my running bra. freakin' burned when i took a shower.

see the little lip at the heel? how awesome is that?

my body is recovering. just woke up from a nap. will make some nachos, wash it down with a light corona, and settle in to either read...

currently reading:
Rock and Roll Will Save Your Life by Steve Almond (great book)
next: Between A Heart and A Rock Place by Pat Benatar (80's man, 80's!)
watching:
Wonderfalls vol. 1 and 2 (another cancelled show by the network monkeys)
A Farewell To Arms and Meet John Doe both starring Gary Cooper (love him!!!)

Mom is doing well, yesterday she told me that she has never been more at peace than right now. i'm glad for her, but freaked out a little. she really sounds content though, so, so be it. will drive up next week to bring her to a doc appt.

big ole 45 is right around the corner. what else to do but move through the day, keep running, and heck...i got carded at the grocery store when i bought the corona. told the clerk she made my day, that i'd be 45 on monday and she said i looked like i was in my 30's. HA! ;-)

heck. i just may work on becoming a cougar! ;-P
ciao!

Hope the injury continues to improve. Isn't ice a miracle? I've been doing the opposite and soaking my foot in hot water and epsom salt after being stupid enough to step on a nail the other day *rolls eyes*
