this coming weekend i'll be running an 18 miler. :-O
not sure how that will go, but i'm hoping that the weather cooperates. enough of these soupy nasty humid and energy melting weekends. had the best of intentions to run a 12 miler this past saturday....but after 2 days (thurs and fri) of running 7+ milers...my body was a little tired. nonetheless, i psyched myself up and headed out. on my way up the street, i saw the carcass of a baby squirrel. close by laid another baby squirrel. when i got closer, i saw that his little sides were moving...it was still alive. me being me, i couldn't leave it there on the road. so, i picked it up gingerly, placed him by a tree away from the road, and went to the neighborhood animal lady. i knocked on her door and told her about the baby and asked if she had any experience with baby squirrels. she said yes, put pants on (it was early morning and she was probably still in bed when i knocked on the door)and followed me to where the little baby was. her assistant, a young boy whom she watches over (another story) placed the deceased baby in a box, while the lady picked the live baby up and took it home. she got him to drink some water...i didn't see any external injuries, though, he did have a little blood coming out of his nose.
...
the 12 miler turned into 3.5 when i found a bird with an injured wing sitting along the edge of a sidewalk on a busy street. i took my shirt off and gently herded the bird to a safer spot.
...
i headed to the store to buy the animal rescue lady some catfood as a thank you for helping the baby squirrel. when i delivered it later on, the baby seemed alot more alert and perky. he was moving around more and didn't seem in too much distress.

i called it a day as far as running went. i did saturday's workout on sunday instead. and then did laundry, food shopping and cat clean-up duty. shopping was a fiasco. the market was filled with newbie freshman and their parents...the local college must have first day of classes today. actually, the wait wasn't too long on the 15 items or less line. and what the heck, it's sunday, i'm in no rush to get anywhere. ;-)

watched the men's marathon. manoman. i couldn't believe that guy in the skirt who disrupted Lima's run. not sure if it affected his chances for gold because Baldino and Meb were hot on his heels and seemed pretty fresh...a really bad incident and i was really surprised that a spectator was able to get that close to the leader...he only had about 3miles to go and should have been cushioned with cops on bikes... he showed great humility and grace entering the stadium. kudos to Lima. true sportmanship. very cool.

yes.
it's monday.
but i'm choosing to ignore that fact.
;-P

If you can, keep us informed how the baby squirrel is doing. And good luck this weekend.
