firestarters...
Sun Jan 06 2002

sometimes i wonder why i bother reading the news. i wake up optimistic and end up going to bed in sorrow. although, human life is more important, i spent lots of time thinking about all the wildlife that will be killed directly or indirectly by the fires in australia.

it's not enough that the koala is endangered because of development...
now what's left of them is being wiped out by the fires. and to think idle/bored human hands struck the match...

sometimes i think we don't deserve the beauty of nature. we take such poor care of her. i can appreciate predators killing prey, that's just the way life is. but when animals and plants get wiped out for a new mc'donalds or because some teen was bored, well, i just don't get it...

what the hell is it going to take to make people realize that many species are on their way to extinction? in the end, we touch that lit match to ourselves...

I've been worried about that fire too. I once watched a PBS special that showed wildlife running desperately from a fire. I've never been the same since. More and more I'm understanding why you are a vegetarian. You've really been on my mind the last couple of days. I spent some time this morning praying for you. You know how much I love you!!!!

Sometimes i swear there is no way i could belong to the same race as some of these fools. Then i realize that in many ways, i'm a fool myself.

Faith, hope, and love...sometimes that is all we are left with.

i have to admit, it was a strange feeling being so far away from home and knowing that our next door neighbours were fighting devastating fires
