workplace has become tough to go to. i was shorted 1 day of work so i lost 12 hours worth of money. not sure why, never got a response to my email sent to hospital manager. was it to make up for the ER visit for the cat bite? that they had to pay for? was it that i had jury duty (on my day off) not sure. nothing makes sense anymore...schedule is continously changed often leaving me with only 1 day's notice of having to report to work. he is not putting the schedule out 1 month in advance like he said he would. my schedule changes every week so i can't even make plans... 2 more nurses have given notice. we are losing nurses every month with no replacements... so far, this summer, we've lost 2 more overnight staff and one swing shift nurse and 3 day shift nurses. we are sorely understaffed overnight, there are plenty of holes, especially during thurs, fri, and sat shifts overnight (the ones noone wants to work. he keeps threatening to put me on fri, sat, and sun...even after he asked for my racing schedule in order to avoid scheduling me for those saturdays. the saturday rotation is practically non-existant. i'm on 2 and off 2 every month instead of everyone rotating.

i've begun submitting resumes. i have had 2 bites so far, one position was too far (1 hour's drive) and the other...i have an interview at this week. it would be a 30 min drive and/or subway ride (beats the 1 and a half subway ride into manhattan)...

i'm sad that this present workplace isn't working out because it was the type of hospital setting i wanted to work at, not a small animal hospital that does vaccinations or fecals...i wanted to work at a teaching facility that did specialty work...alas, the hospital manager has turned into a bastard...doesn't know what he's doing, and is basically screwing everyone accept for the new ER tech he's hired...he promised her a sweet shift of sun, mon, tues, with only an occasional saturday because she has home stuff she needs to do and told him if she wasn't able to, she would not take the job. of course, he's screwing her now too...he's putting her in ICU even though she was hired to work ER.

my time there is close to the end and i'm angry and a little depressed. but it is becoming morally wrong to work there. i'm tired of being overworked, in charge of 2 wards and no help unless ER isn't busy. the hospital is doing well, though, we've been busy, we had a vent case, dog was on for at least 5 days at about $1000 a night. and yet, we don't receive the 5% cutback. the rumor is they will give it back based on performance which is bullshit. they took it from everyone (with specialty docs getting a 10% cut) due to the poor economy. they should give it back now that the hospital is doing well and hold back raises due to performance. i don't think they're giving back our 30 minute lunches either... it's all about the money. it isn't about patients, or clients, or employees...it's about money. they've just opened another hospital in minnesota.

i'll miss some of the doctors and co-workers but the hospital manager and business manager can both go to hell. and as for the co-workers who never wanted to rotate saturdays, i hope they get screwed as well.

I could ask Dell-girl if she's a former New Yorker, but she looks way too much like one for me to feel comfortable doing it. She'd probably kick-box me out. She and her overnight back-pack are in the process of leaving now, as is Ilie Nastase. I'll misse Ilie, but I won't misse her. She drives a white Camry - don't know why but my first thought is "figures".

I need to catch up on your diary. Good luck with the job hunt. With the time you've put in at where you are now, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding an appropriate position. I know that some of the major hospitals in my area are screaming for competent vets. They may not be teaching hospitals, but they are cutting-edge places so they'd still give you some challenge and some intellectual stimulation.

    Off to catch-up.
