don't panic
Thu Mar 31 2005

i've bought a car, moved, re-acclimated myself with driving after a month of nothing...and will begin school...all of this within 18 days. went for a test run (under the supervision of my driving instructor whom i really really like and feel extremely comfortable too-bad-he's-married!) to the school facility which is way way out there, about an hour from where i live and holy! i actually debated putting school off until june because all of that driving has turned me into a nervous wreck. granted, i had to drive in his car with the "student driver" sign on top and the car is a boat (2004 Monte Carlo!) compared to my little Civic... it took a while just to get used to driving that car again. the instructor squeezed me into his busy schedule for a 6:30pm lesson so by the time the driving got hairy, and hairy is anytime i have to drive 55mph, it was getting dark. i don't do dark well, especially when i have NO Idea where the heck i'm going. i'm planning to take another test run this weekend (preferably while daylight is still upon us) but as of today, i'm really feeling the pressure.

--by the way, from what i could see, the setting where the school facility is promises to be beautiful.

--i just don't know if i can hack the kind of driving that is required to get there...like i said to the instructor, "when the heck will they get that transporter mechanism going???"

--i've been driving to work all week just to get as much experience as possible so i've been getting to work about an hour early ;-P

--in general, what in the heck is all the rush??? so many speeding motorists...
is the possibility of getting into an accident worth it???

okay. enough. i need to get my hands on an atlas.

also. i hope that my supervisor for the practicum is understanding...

i plan on having spare clothes in the trunk in case of an emergency.

Sal, any tips on driving to NBC with the least amount of stress?????

thanks.

franny, i'm so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!! you're so lucky to have you, you know? and so am i. personally, i don't know what all the rush is about, unless i'm late, but that's no reason to be an asshole. from what i've observed, a lot of aggressive drivers don't think about or question why they have the idea that any given driver should drive to suit them in any given situation. they don't see cars as being driven by flesh and blood fallible human beings. as long as they don't hit me, it's their blood pressure. i'm sure you won't be like them unless there's a very, very good reason.
