and who will accompany me?
through dark and deserted streets..
through fine mists of a weak winter
me and my unbuttoned coat.

i've a long way to go,
you can follow the weariness
through your x-rays
it drags my feet this barium
swallow, it doesn't hide
tiredness.

it was all good today,
it was some sad.
to realize i'll say goodbye
and move on again
someone else's hands will
smoothe down the fur,
fill the metal bowls.

it's time to go
into this goodnight...

The long succession of caring hands. There will always be someone to smooth the hair and fill the bowls at that place.

The ones waiting for you in the future need you more than the ones you are leaving behind, if that helps at all.
