orangegirl had an appt with the cardiologist yesterday. they did bloodwork, took chest rads and did an echocardiogram. i kind of regretted looking at the radiographs because they were bad. they revealed she had pleural effusion and he ended up tapping her chest and removing 60mls of fluid from the right side. the echo revealed enlarged heart chambers and vessels. meds were tweaked and he added plavix so she's now on: pepcid, vetmedin, lasix, methimazole, aspirin and plavix. her bloodwork was okay (lytes were good but BUN slightly high) so she'll be returning next week for a recheck to see how her kidneys are holding out and more chest rads to see if the effusion has come back. he said i have her on a good diet, she hasn't lost weight and had good BPs in both front paws (120 with the doppler).

i asked a tough question. i asked if i was asking too much keeping her going. he said no, that her quality of life was still good. she is eating, drinking, jumps up on the bed, grooms herself, uses the litter pan appropriately and even takes swipes at Vincenzo when he annoys her. she is breathing a lot better but she wasn't breathing that bad to begin with, only short episodes of increased respiratory rate and effort. tapping that fluid really made a difference. her breathing got so much better. the plavix? holy, it was expensive!!!!!! i got it though, because i had to. she needs it. nothing more to discuss about it.

she's my girl.

Mom laughed hysterically when i told her orangegirl was on Plavix. she was placed on plavix as well, after her stroke. i told her i may have to steal her plavix when they wean her off...

i feel like i'm waiting for the other shoe to drop when it comes to my Mom and my orangegirl. both are doing well, but they are very very sick.
